In the city's nighttime darkness, there were not only Crow Men capturing humans, but also monsters hunting Crow Men. And the figure most often witnessed was that of a wizarding old man with a magic wand, vanishing in a flash.
If the old man had said "Avada Kedavra" and the color of the light he fired had been different, perhaps another book would have come out of it.
Though they had escaped with their lives, it was hardly a pleasant memory. They shared their lingering fear online, and it spread continuously as an urban legend.
"Yo~" White Fox called, and Daigo, driving the DeLaM Car, changed direction in response.
Maybe they'd been single for too long, but Daigo and the others all thought this fox looked rather pretty.
"Yo~yo~yo~" White Fox suddenly cried three times in a frantic rush. Daigo gradually slowed the car and switched off the headlights.
White Fox nimbly leaped out through the window. Munakata and the others didn't hesitate, immediately climbing out of the DeLaM Car and casually flicking off the safeties on their Hyper Guns.
White Fox parted the slightly withered weeds, and an abandoned building came into view for Munakata and the others.
Munakata lowered his voice and asked, "Horii, have you finished developing the equipment to deal with that ray gun?"
Horii, going all out, wiped the sweat from his forehead and said softly, "It's finished. We have enough for this operation."
To make sure the weapons could be used right away, Rena piloted Guts Wing 2 at a slow, steady pace. She glanced down at the coordinates. "Guts Wing 2 has arrived."
Horii, who had trained most of his fat into muscle, came running over as fast as he could. He looked like a tank as he handed each person a bullet-shaped device.
"Good. Begin the operation at once." Munakata raised an eyebrow and turned around. "Listen up. Rescuing the hostages is our top priority. Understood?"
"Understood!" The answering voices were unusually few. One particularly loud voice was missing.
?
Munakata couldn't help turning around to look behind him.
Zhou Hong and Hibiki Gousuke had already run off and vanished. Even the fox was gone. Only Daigo remained, grinning foolishly.
"Those two sure can run fast." Munakata felt his stomach beginning to ache.
Ever since transferring from the Defense Force to GUTS, he hadn't given up exercising, but he mostly worked on toning. Those two beasts were training their stamina like madmen.
The shadow racing through the night was proof of that.
"Daigo, be ready to support those two hotheads at any moment."
"We'll go in from another direction and rescue the hostages while they're fighting."
Munakata knew brash men all too well.
And Hibiki Gousuke and Zhou Hong's charge could only be described as a headlong rush.
Zhou Hong made no attempt to conceal his movements. His heavy steps pounded the gravel path with a tremendous racket. His pace steadily quickened, and the howling wind rushed around him until all that could be seen was a shadow soaring through the air.
The abandoned building was already close. Zhou Hong's strides grew longer and longer before he suddenly leaped and shot toward the rusted gate.
His body was almost parallel to the ground, and his powerful legs kicked through the air.
Zhou Hong's brazen approach wasn't lost on the Crow Men. They reacted at once, swarming toward the gate.
The long-rusted iron gate let out a tearing crash. The lock shattered, and both gates broke free of their hinges, crushing the Crow Men standing nearby beneath them.
Beneath the clear, cold moonlight, a shadow flashed across the iron gate. Zhou Hong had already charged into the abandoned building.
His agile body sprang into the air, dodging a barrage of attacks. He twisted in midair, planted both hands on a Crow Man's head, and wrenched.
There was a crisp crack as its bones twisted out of place, and the Crow Man's head spun a full 180 degrees.
Using the Crow Man's head as a pivot, Zhou Hong landed and flung its bloodied corpse away.
The tremendous impact knocked down the Crow Men surging in nearby.
His figure was like a ghost, elusive and unpredictable. In the dead of night, he was like a greedy wolf, constantly tearing into its prey.
The instant Zhou Hong paused to catch his breath, the Crow Men struck back. Their sharp claws tore his clothes, but only left a few pale marks on the man's body.
The Crow Man's eyes widened in disbelief. The last thing it saw before losing consciousness was
a bloodied fist growing larger by the second, and those eyes glowing red.
A wild gale swept through everything, but the wind was always filled with the smell of blood.
The Crow Men thrown away had eyes that were once bright yellow but had turned gray and white.
Their heads had also gotten a makeover at the man's hands.
They looked even uglier.
The surging air currents slowly settled. Zhou Hong straightened up and gave both hands a hard shake, flinging blood droplets to the ground.
The strange sound made him turn his gaze forward.
In front of him lay a Crow Man in a pose he found extremely irritating.
He mercilessly stepped on the Crow Man striking the "Flower of Hope" pose, his toe cutting off the trail of blood spreading from its body.
"You have no future."
Zhou Hong grabbed the ruined clothes with his right hand and tore them to shreds. He thrust out his muscular chest and spread his arms wide as if embracing the world, releasing his frenzied aura without restraint.
With one foot on a Crow Man, he drew a deep breath and shouted into the darkness.
His resounding voice echoed through the empty building.
"This is all you've got? Who gave you the courage"
"to set foot on this planet"
"you pieces of trash."

No one answered his question. The cawing grew more frantic and chaotic, and the sound of leather shoes striking the ground drew ever closer.
Hibiki Gousuke saw Zhou Hong standing alone atop a Crow Man's body.
Crow Man corpses lay scattered throughout the building. In the cold light, Hibiki Gousuke could occasionally make out fist-shaped dents seemingly stamped into the walls, as well as several Crow Men who'd received special treatment.
Most of them were lying facedown. The more unusual ones had been split apart. These few were even more different.
They were the outstanding ones.
They were embedded in the walls.
The kind you couldn't pry out, no matter how hard you tried.
"I feel like A-Hong's getting more and more violent. Who got him riled up?"
All Hibiki Gousuke could do was mourn for these Crow Men for 0.1 seconds and wish them a speedy trip to hell.
Hibiki Gousuke didn't have Zhou Hong's absurd physical prowess. He dutifully held the weapon Horii had prepared, stood by the wall, and waited for the next wave of Crow Men to arrive.
The crows in the night swarmed out of their nest.
