The impact caused by the affair of Sanada Ryosuke was severe, so much so that Director Sawai had to return from abroad.
Fortunately, Sanada Ryosuke still possessed a conscience and did not lash out at others, choosing instead to extract the data himself; however, the terrible consequences of this human experimentation, which turned a person into a monster, could not be erased.
The debt incurred from the destruction of buildings was a massive sum that would be difficult for Sanada Ryosuke to pay off even if he worked for a hundred years.
The casualties caused while he was absorbing electricity were also an indelible fact.
Horii dragged his weary body into the Command Room, and as he met the gazes of everyone present, he spoke up.
"After reducing the power supply, the cells in Ryosuke's body have lost their activity; as long as we maintain this level of electricity, he shouldn't die."
"I will develop a set of effective equipment so that he can continue to live."
Director Sawai nodded slightly, signaling that Horii had done well.
The old man's face showed a hint of fatigue; after all, he was no longer young and lacked the stamina of his youth.
However, it was not yet time for retirement. Director Sawai narrowed his eyes for a moment before returning to the spirited Sawai he always was.
"Then, please, bring him here." Director Sawai's words made everyone feel as if they had been pricked by a needle, and they instantly sobered up.
"Absolutely not!" Chief Yoshioka nearly snapped his beloved little fan. "Sawai, absolutely not."
The members of GUTS also felt it was inappropriate, regardless of the chosen location or the person he was meeting.
"This is too dangerous, Director." Megumi Iruma delivered the final verdict.
Director Sawai smiled, stood up, pressed his hand on his old friend's shoulder, and pushed him back into his chair.
"I am merely an old man who wants to have a good talk with a child who has lost his way. Surely he won't resort to violence just because I'm a bit long-winded?"
"But..." Chief Yoshioka wanted to say more, but he was interrupted by Director Sawai.
"Not to mention that after Horii suppresses his electrical energy, it is questionable whether he can even transform into a monster anymore."
"At the very least, isn't Zhou Hong here?" Director Sawai said quietly.
Chief Yoshioka knew full well the nature of this "great beast" at headquarters—his own subordinate, of whom he was so proud.
The legend of the tough guy who chased aliens down to beat them up was widely circulated within TPC headquarters; it provided a sense of security that was hard to put into words during this chaotic era.
Because of this, while the logistics staff might complain, they were very diligent with repairs afterward.
The medical department also received more inquiries regarding the Rookie Squad.
It is said that because of the exposure of the Crow Man incident, the staff at the TPC Far East Headquarters all began a journey of physical training.
This included, but was not limited to, swinging large wrenches up and down during their spare time.
Chief Yoshioka turned his head to look at Zhou Hong. "Are you confident?"
Zhou Hong revealed a brilliant smile. "No problem. Just say the word whether you want him dead or alive."
"After beating him once, I have a rough idea of his pain threshold."
Chief Yoshioka let out a sigh of relief. Since that was the case, he no longer had a reason to stop Director Sawai.
"Hmph, Sawai, since you're courting death yourself, then do as you please. Don't expect me to help when the time comes."
Director Sawai understood the personality of his old friend and rival very well; he was a classic tsundere.
He smiled and asked Horii to bring Sanada Ryosuke over.
As it turned out, the backup plan of Zhou Hong was not needed at all. When facing Director Sawai, even Sanada Ryosuke lowered his head.
After obediently calling out "Director," he stood there awkwardly, his body and legs shifting slightly as he longed to flee the Command Room.
"No need to be so restrained, sit." Director Sawai kindly pushed a chair over and pressed the man down into it.
Sanada Ryosuke did not struggle at all; he was terrified that if he became agitated, he might hurt this man.
Director Sawai sat back in his own chair and began the conversation.
"I have already learned about your situation from Horii."
When facing Horii, Sanada Ryosuke could stubbornly insist that he didn't understand, but facing Director Sawai, he only lowered his head in shame.
"No one can be number one forever. Take me, for example; my marksmanship has never been as good as Yoshioka's."
"Hmph~ You have never once beaten me." Chief Yoshioka expressed his disagreement, as if to say that marksmanship was the only thing he was better at.
"Now that I am old, my physical strength cannot compare to Zhou Hong's either."
Zhou Hong flexed his bicep, and the muscle bulging at his will made the corner of Sanada Ryosuke's eye twitch.
That muscle had left him with some rather unpleasant memories.
"Is it first place you are pursuing, or is it love?"
Sanada Ryosuke did not know himself; his distorted upbringing and a life that had been too smooth caused him to start doubting the meaning of his existence the moment he encountered a setback.
Director Sawai did not expect to correct the personality flaws caused by a faulty education in such a short time.
"One cannot walk out of the shadows alone. If you have time, you can come and have a good chat with this old man."
"Don't overthink things on your own. I believe this old man can still provide some guidance for your path forward."
Sanada Ryosuke nodded, and just as he was about to say something, his face suddenly twisted in agony as he clutched his chest.
Zhou Hong was already preparing to take action, but Horii was quick-witted enough to grab an electric baton and shock him.
Once Sanada Ryosuke was hit with the electricity, he snapped back to his senses.
"My apologies," Sanada Ryosuke apologized, looking embarrassed.
Director Sawai had seen his fair share of storms and waves, so he nodded calmly.
"There are some things I must tell you personally, and you need to prepare yourself mentally."
Sanada Ryosuke had already guessed what Director Sawai was going to say.
"We haven't told the families of those you killed the exact circumstances, and you have an obligation to tell them the truth."
"This is your responsibility. Regardless of what they choose to do, TPC will not hold them accountable."
"You must be clear on this point."
"Yes," Sanada Ryosuke indicated that he understood.
After being knocked unconscious, he had many dreams, and after waking up, he had done a lot of thinking; his mind was in a state of chaos, but this was the one thing he had long been mentally prepared for.
"Then I also have a job here that I need to entrust to you."
"You have seen the consequences of human experimentation. I do not wish to see such things happen again within TPC or anywhere else in the world. Can you do that?" Director Sawai's expression was very serious.
"You will never see such things again." Sanada Ryosuke stood up and bowed deeply toward Director Sawai.
Sanada Ryosuke was a man, and after leaving the Command Room, he immediately headed to the victims' families accompanied by Horii.
The enraged families were unable to control their emotions, and their physical retaliation was naturally heavy.
This left him lying in a hospital bed for over half a year.
As soon as he got out of bed, he threw himself into the duties assigned by Director Sawai, giving it his absolute all.
