Zi Yan was found and brought to Jia Nan Academy by Great Elder Su Qian. Having consumed Shapeshifting Grass in the academy’s back mountain, she gained a human child form but could not freely transform until reaching sufficient cultivation. Her immense strength and unruly behavior left her isolated among the Inner Academy students, who called her the Brute Force King. 229 496

She became close to Xiao Yu after he agreed to refine medicinal fruits into pills for her and took her outside the academy. He treated her as a younger sister, while she became fiercely protective of him and his companions. 229

Xiao Yu later revealed that Zi Yan was not an ordinary magical beast, but a royal descendant of the Ancient Void Dragon Clan and daughter of its missing clan chief. Learning that her clan had never stopped searching for her eased her sense of abandonment, and she returned with Zhu Li and Hei Qing to learn the clan’s techniques. 402 496
