"The introductions are over. Now, let's talk about serious matters." Straightening his expression, Minato Namikaze did not dwell on the pleasantries. With other matters clearly at hand, he gazed intently at the four youths standing before him, all in the prime of their youth, and spoke in a grave tone: "You are all aware that the Land of Fire is currently unstable. In the coming days, I will dedicate all my energy to training you."
"Um, Lord Fourth, is there really a war happening in other countries?"
Perhaps the Land of Fire was too peaceful at the moment; there was no real sense that a Ninja World War was underway.
Let alone Obito, even Yang Xing was skeptical about whether this was just a rumor.
"To be precise, it involves multiple other nations. Great powers are invading smaller ones, smaller nations are forming alliances to resist, and countries are fighting over resources and people. The reason it hasn't affected us is due to the efforts of the Konoha ninjas on the front lines." Minato Namikaze's gaze was deep, his brow slightly furrowed; it appeared the situation was indeed far from optimistic.
"Is that so?" Minato Namikaze's expression caused Obito's face to darken slightly.
However, a calm remark from Kakashi, standing to the side, made Obito's expression shift again: "Idiot, with Lord Fourth here, how could there possibly be any trouble for our Konoha?"
"You're the idiot, Kakashi! You big idiot!"
"Ahem! Alright, no arguing over things like this. Well, Konoha is indeed safe as long as I am here; there won't be any major problems." Minato Namikaze helplessly pressed his hands down on the two of them, then smiled. "You should worry about yourselves instead. When the time comes, don't end up without even the ability to protect your own lives."
"That will absolutely never happen." Obito clenched his fists, his eyes burning with spirit. "Because I am the one who is going to become Hokage."
"Oh? So Obito's dream is to become Hokage." Minato Namikaze narrowed his eyes, his expression full of amusement.
Obito nodded vigorously, saying with great excitement: "Yes, I want to become a Hokage just like Lord Fourth."
"Tch!"
There were two soft sounds of lip-curling.
"Kakashi, Yang Xing, you two just curled your lips, didn't you?"
"You heard wrong."
"Little brats really love to falsely accuse innocent people."
"You two!" Obito's face flushed red, his eyes widening as he prepared to throw a tantrum.
Watching these guys, Minato Namikaze's smile grew somewhat stiff.
At this moment, even he, the Fourth Hokage, found himself at a loss with this group.
The sunlight gradually brightened, casting a brilliant glow across the plains.
"Next is a strength assessment. Although I have your school records, I cannot truly understand the extent of your abilities without seeing them for myself." Time waited for no one, and there were important matters that needed to be resolved; Minato Namikaze was in no rush to address the relationships between them.
What mattered most right now was checking one person's strength. He wanted to see for himself if the reports from the school instructor were accurate.
"I suddenly have a stomachache, Lord Fourth, I think I..."
"Yang Xing, I've heard from your instructor that you use this trick every time. Even if your chakra control is lacking, you must demonstrate it for me today. At the very least, let me understand your level of strength." Minato Namikaze stared fixedly at Yang Xing with a serious face. He was testing specifically for this kid's sake; he needed to know just how weak this brat really was.
"Do I really have to?"
"Yes!" Not just Minato Namikaze, but even Kakashi, Obito, and Rin Nohara turned their heads to look at Yang Xing.
Compared to Yang Xing, the others were already familiar with each other from school, but they really didn't know much about this new companion. Why was it that this guy was being trained by the Fourth Hokage?
"Fine." Realizing he had no choice, Yang Xing could only shrug his shoulders helplessly.
"Then let's start with the basics. Use any ninjutsu—Fire Style, Wind Style, anything will do."
"Um, I don't know any."
"Is that so? You don't know any offensive ninjutsu." The latter half of his sentence was spoken very softly, as if he were merely muttering to himself. When Minato Namikaze looked up again, he continued earnestly: "Then just show me any ninjutsu you do know."
"Then I'll use the Clone Technique."
Once Yang Xing finished speaking, he began to form the hand seals symbolically. He had practiced these seals many times over the past year; there was no way he could mess up the movements for such simple techniques.
Boar-Snake-Tiger!
The movements were completed with extreme fluidity, and a puff of smoke rose up.
A figure identical to Yang Xing appeared, looking remarkably lifelike.
Although the standard basic Clone Technique only created an afterimage compared to something like the Shadow Clone, its practicality was still decent.
"The Clone Technique is not bad. It's impossible that what the instructor said was true. This kid, just what..." Watching the clone, which was flawless—or rather, perfect—Minato Namikaze muttered to himself, his brow furrowing deeper. Unfortunately, before he could finish his thought, there was another soft sound.
Poof!
Before the words had even left his lips, the clone had already vanished into a puff of smoke, leaving Yang Xing looking completely exhausted.
"I'm dead tired." Yang Xing wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked at the stunned Fourth Hokage. "Lord Fourth, how many seconds was that?"
"It wasn't even 10 seconds!"
"That's amazing! It used to be less than 7 seconds, but now I've actually reached 10 seconds! It looks like I've made some real progress, hahaha!"
Everyone: "..."
Watching Yang Xing's beaming smile, Minato Namikaze could only cover his face and sigh: "So there really is someone who can only maintain the Clone Technique for less than 10 seconds."
"This guy, he's not joking, is he?" Even Obito looked shocked.
Kakashi nodded, "Yeah, it looks like you aren't the last place in this team anymore."
"Kakashi, what do you mean by that?"
Although he was infuriated by the subtext in Kakashi's words, Obito didn't push the argument too far, as he was more curious about Yang Xing, an eleven-year-old standing before them who couldn't even perform a decent Clone Technique.
"Well, take things one step at a time." Even as he offered the consolation, Minato Namikaze felt his words were a bit forced. Fortunately, Yang Xing himself didn't seem to care at all; in fact, the brat seemed to be secretly pleased about improving his time by three seconds. Facing such a peculiar kid, Minato Namikaze found himself becoming quite interested.
"No matter how you take it, he'll never be a match for me. Why did such a weak guy have to join this team?" Shaking his head and sighing like an adult, Obito turned back to the Fourth Hokage and raised a hand: "Lord Fourth, I'm next, right?"
The Fourth Hokage nodded and cast a sidelong glance.
"Watch this! Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique!"
Whoosh!
Thick smoke accompanied by searing flames erupted from Obito's mouth. The moment it cleared his lips, the sword-shaped flame expanded in mid-air, transforming into a magnificent fireball that scorched the ten-meter stretch of grass ahead into charred earth before detonating.
BOOM!
A massive cloud of smoke billowed high into the sky.
It had to be said, the power of this Great Fireball Technique was quite impressive.
The Fourth Hokage nodded without a word, his gaze sweeping over the group before lingering on Kakashi.
"Hmm, as for me..." Kakashi pulled his hands from his pockets, originally intending to perform a ninjutsu.
However, the Fourth Hokage simply whispered a few words and shifted his gaze away: "That won't be necessary, Kakashi."
