The Emperor slowed his pace and came to walk beside Qin Mo.

Qin Mo held no contempt for the Terra Watt Tribe, but he did for the Adeptus Mechanicus. This made the Emperor want to hear his opinion of the Adeptus Mechanicus he had helped establish.

"I did laugh contemptuously, but I wasn't contemptuous of the Adeptus Mechanicus itself, just as I have no contempt for the Terra Watt Tribe, a group that treats technology as faith."

"My contempt for the Adeptus Mechanicus comes from knowing what they will do in the future. They will find ways to turn technology into a monopoly commodity. They will not know which Omnissiah they are supposed to worship. They will value technology itself more than those whom technology ought to serve, and that will lead to many harmful consequences."

"And over the long course of history, they will also do far too many things that are both absurd and exasperating."

"But there is one point on which the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Terra Watt Tribe are alike. Though blindly faithful, what they do directly or indirectly protects humanity's ancestral technological legacy. That is an undeniable contribution."

"If they did not worship technology, if they were like the warlords outside, treating technology as something to hurt each other and themselves with, like children playing with explosives, then I would not only despise them completely—I would destroy them."
