These two Necron individuals, mad enough to flock together, had no clear awareness of anything beyond the battlefield. Both felt as though they were still in the era of the War in Heaven.
Fontan raised his head and, in a daze, saw that his superior, Zahedk, was no longer cold metal, but an aged Necrophage on the brink of death.
"We will open a second battlefield on this planet behind enemy lines."

Only when Zahedk's cold electronic voice reached Fontan's audio receptors did everything before his eyes return to normal.

Fontan nodded, then deployed an anti-C'tan force he had assembled onto the battlefield.
This force was responsible for inflicting as much damage on the C'tan as possible in ground combat. The weapons they commonly carried had been made with Psychic Power technology captured from the Old Ones, much like the weapons Fontan himself had collected for dueling gods.
But they were ultimately individual weapons, and their target was an extraordinary existence like a C'tan. Weapons supposedly capable of trading blows with gods could only do so much.
