After some discussion, the Cadia chose to head for the Underhive of Talon Prime. The captain of the merchant ship left his vessel in orbit on the planet's dark side, then rode down with them in a transport, intending to look for valuable goods he could trade.

Like Creed the day before, everyone flew through the breach the transport had smashed into the wall, where soldiers stopped them, fitted them with Protection Devices, and teleported them together to New Kato in the lowest hive.

Creed had expected the young leader from yesterday to come greet them, but the person who arrived was someone he had not yet met.

The newcomer immediately introduced himself. "Grey. You needn't tell me your names. I already know them all. The Legion Commander just briefed me."

"Follow me." Grey led the group toward the residential district in the city center.

No one, Creed included, had expected the city in this lowest hive to be so clean and orderly. Everything about it emphasized two words: order.

Other than the natural environment being utterly incomparable to the upper hive, everything else was quite good.

They had not gone far when a drone flew over, its Heavy Bolter aimed at them.

Creed and the others instinctively prepared for battle, but the drone merely scanned them, then retracted its Heavy Bolter and moved on to scan the city's residents.

Creed considered this surveillance-like duty entirely necessary. He knew what the lowest hive was like. Apart from all manner of mutant monsters, it was also home to people from every walk of life.

But how the drone conducted its scans—whether someone controlled it or whether it contained Abominable Intelligence—was another matter entirely.

Creed's superior winked at him, signaling him not to concern himself with such trivial details and to focus
