On the battlefield, the jagged decaying Webway began to close.

It did not blaze open or collapse in an instant like an Aeldari Webway gate. Instead, it slowly twisted and writhed inward like the maw of a living creature. Yet it was visibly shrinking, with energy and matter gradually vanishing into nothingness rather than being transformed.

Even an ordinary mortal soldier on the battlefield could see what would happen if they delayed any longer: the Webway itself would become utter nothingness, like the vacuum blasted out by that skeletal Iron Man.

Azrael, Chapter Master of the Dark Angels, realized this as well. After Qin Mo selected those who would accompany him into the Webway, Lion had received an exceedingly candid notification from Qin Mo.

The order from his Primarch was even more direct and severe: do everything possible to forge a path straight into the Webway.

Azrael personally fought at the very front. At times, he cut down every sort of enemy he encountered; at others, he raised his weapon and poured Bolter fire into everything ahead. He no longer needed to issue orders to his men. Through his own tireless performance on the battlefield, every member of the Dark Angels understood what they had to do.

Amid that fierce struggle, a Daemon Engine suddenly charged straight at Azrael.

The Grand Master reacted with astonishing speed, turning, drawing his gun, aiming, and firing in less than the blink of an eye.

But when he pulled the trigger, the Bolter in his hand, Lion's Fury, gave a crisp mechanical click, then fell silent as though a stone had sunk into the sea.

It had jammed.

As those words surfaced in his mind, a bead of sweat slid down the back of Azrael's neck and was absorbed by his armor.
