"Ah..."
A sigh came from inside the Baruch family shrine in Wushan Town.
Hearing it, six-and-a-half-year-old Linley couldn't help bursting into tears.
He clutched Moke's hand as tears streamed down his face.
"Be good, little brother. Don't cry. It's all right." Moke comforted his younger brother, feeling sorry for him.
He had never imagined that he would one day transmigrate into the Coiling Dragon World and become the full-blooded younger brother of the protagonist, Linley.
Having read the original story thoroughly, he knew, of course, that Linley had failed the bloodline test this time.
As descendants of the Dragonblood Warrior Family, only their younger brother Wharton had a strong enough Dragonblood Warrior Bloodline in this generation. Both Moke and Linley had failed.
"Linley, don't cry. Your big brother's right. It's all right."
Seeing sensible Moke and tearful Linley, Hogg felt his heart tremble. He quickly bent down and picked up both his sons.
Not a single person in the family had met the bloodline requirement to become a Dragonblood Warrior for many years. How could he blame his two sons for it?
Besides, both his sons were well-behaved. They had brought Hogg, who had lost his wife, a great deal of comfort. He was already very content.
"I won't cry. I won't cry. I'm a man!" Linley's shoulders shook. He said the words, but he still couldn't stop the tears from falling.
After all, he was only six and a half. It was hard not to feel sad when he saw his father's disappointment.
Hogg held his two sons, while nearby, the butler Hiri held his youngest son, Wharton.
Wharton was only four years old, and at this hour he had already fallen asleep.
With Moke tucked under his left arm and Linley under his right, Hogg sat on the stone steps outside the shrine. Moonlight fell over the three of them, as if draping them in a thin silver veil.
Hogg chuckled. "For so many years, no one in my Dragonblood Warrior Family has had a strong enough bloodline to become a new Dragonblood Warrior."
"So I don't blame you two for being unable to become Dragonblood Warriors."
Moke was only six and a half, just like Linley, but his little face was set with resolve. "Father, it doesn't matter if I can't become a Dragonblood Warrior. I'll work hard and restore the glory of the Baruch Clan!"
"I-I'll work as hard as my big brother!" Linley clenched his little fist on Hogg's other side.
"Hahaha, good! Very good." Hogg smiled with satisfaction.
Then he grew a little more serious. "I don't blame you for being unable to become Dragonblood Warriors, but I hope you'll recover our Baruch Clan's lost heirloom, the Warblade Slaughter."
"Of course, I'll work hard alongside you." Hogg's gaze turned cold.
The Baruch Clan had been a renowned Dragonblood Warrior Family throughout the Yulan Continent thousands of years ago.
Back then, the family had possessed several Dragonblood Warriors at the Saint Realm!
But a thousand years had passed without anyone in their Dragonblood Warrior Family having a strong enough bloodline to become a new Dragonblood Warrior. The once-glorious family had naturally fallen into decline.
What enraged Hogg most was that one of the Baruch Clan's past patriarchs had actually sold the Warblade Slaughter, the personal weapon of the clan's first patriarch, just to indulge himself!
It was a disgrace to the Baruch Clan!
"Father, my little brother and I will work hard to get the Warblade Slaughter back!"
Moke tried to comfort Hogg.
He had been born into this life, and Hogg had raised him from infancy. He knew the pain this man carried in his heart.
His wife had been abducted on the night she gave birth to their youngest son, Wharton.
Her life or death was still unknown!
Hogg was consumed by grief!
But he didn't even have the courage to search for the people who had taken her.
He still had three children to raise. He couldn't risk anything happening to him.
Moke felt Hogg's pain just as keenly.
He had been an orphan in his previous life, and in this life he had finally gotten to experience a mother's love.
Unfortunately, despite all his efforts, his mother Lina had still been abducted just as in the original story. She had long since been offered to the Lord of Light by the Radiant Church.
After all, Moke had only been four years old at the time. What could he have done?
"All right. Hahaha, we'll work hard together!" Hogg burst into laughter.
Still, it was clear that he had little confidence.
The family that owned the Warblade Slaughter was famous throughout the Fenlai Kingdom, while they were nothing more than a fallen noble family out in the countryside.
Hogg had little confidence, but Moke was brimming with it.
He knew that his younger brother Linley would achieve unimaginable things in the future. Getting the Warblade Slaughter back would be easy for him.
And besides...
Moke focused his gaze slightly, and a progress bar appeared in his vision.
[Sign-in System loading...]
[Current loading progress: 90...91...92]
Just moments ago, when the Dragonblood Needle had pierced his skin, the Sign-in System had suddenly appeared!
The system had explained that it had descended because the main storyline had begun.
Whatever the reason, the sudden appearance of the Sign-in System gave Moke confidence. Perhaps he could become a peerless powerhouse, just like his younger brother Linley!
"All right, Moke, Linley, it's getting late. You two should go to bed."
After telling his two sons part of the truth, Hogg felt much more at ease.
At least he no longer had to bear certain secrets alone.
There were also some secrets, such as what had happened to their mother, that Hogg wasn't going to tell his sons just yet.
"Good night, big brother."
From the room across the hall, Linley smiled and waved.
"Good night, Linley. Sleep well." Moke smiled back at his younger brother.
Then the brothers closed their doors.
The Baruch Clan had once been famous, with hundreds of family members.
Their home had plenty of rooms, so six-and-a-half-year-old Moke and Linley could each have one to themselves.
Of course, four-year-old Wharton still had to sleep with Grandpa Hiri or their father, Hogg.
[Ding! Sign-in System fully loaded!]
[Each location that appeared in the original story can be used for one sign-in. Successful sign-ins grant various rewards.]
[Ding! The host can currently sign in at the following locations:
1: Yulan Continent
2: Baruch Ancestral Home]
The moment his door closed, a string of crisp, synthesized mechanical announcements sounded in Moke's mind. Though he had been very sleepy, he instantly perked up.
"The Sign-in System has finished loading?" He immediately checked the two options.
The locations he could currently sign in at were the Yulan Continent and the Baruch Ancestral Home.
"The bigger the location, the better the sign-in rewards, right?"
Moke considered it and decided to save the good stuff for later.
Then he focused his mind.
[Ding! Congratulations, host. You have signed in at the Baruch Ancestral Home.]
[Ding! Congratulations, host. You have received one spatial ring and one damaged Sovereign Artifact for soul defense.]
"Hm?"
After the system announced that the sign-in had succeeded, Moke's heart gave a sudden lurch.
He knew what a spatial ring was; it was used for storage.
But this damaged Sovereign Artifact for soul defense...
"Could it be the Coiling Dragon Ring? I don't want to steal Linley's opportunity."
As the thought crossed his mind, Moke's eyes suddenly lit up.
Two soft white lights appeared out of nowhere right in front of him.
Moke opened his hand, and the white orbs drifted down into his palm.
The moment they landed in his palm, the light vanished.
As it faded, a silver ring and a silver bracelet appeared.
"It's a bracelet, so it's not the Coiling Dragon Ring." Moke let out a sigh of relief.
