Background

Konoha is a technologically equipped but traditionally built ninja settlement: its broad roads and antique-style buildings coexist with electrical facilities. The village is surrounded by varied terrain and is portrayed as closer in scale to a large town than a small village. 16

Before Uchiha Xiu's rise, the village's treatment of the Uchiha Clan had created a severe internal crisis. After the Nine-Tails incident, the Uchiha were ordered to remain inactive, later relocated to the village outskirts, and placed under surveillance by other major clans. The establishment of the Anbu and Root had also reduced the authority formerly held by the Uchiha Police Force. 20

The crisis escalated into open fighting between the Uchiha, Root, Anbu, and forces loyal to the Third Hokage. Danzō was killed during the Forest of Death conflict, while Sarutobi Hiruzen died after fighting Uchiha Xiu and entrusting Konoha's future to him. Xiu was then recognized as the Fifth Hokage by the assembled clans, Anbu elites, and Sarutobi Clan members. 23 26

Military Affairs

Forest of Death Conflict

The Forest of Death conflict determined Konoha's new leadership. Uchiha forces mobilized against Root after Xiu confronted Danzō, while Hiruzen led Anbu units toward the battlefield. The Ino-Shika-Chō and Sarutobi Clan joined Hiruzen's force, whereas clans such as the Hyūga initially remained neutral and sealed their compounds. 23

Following Xiu's victory over Hiruzen, the village avoided a broader purge. Sarutobi Clan children and civilians were spared, while the surviving clans were encouraged to align with the new Hokage rather than continue resistance. 26 27

Iwagakure Operation

Konoha later launched a proactive strike against Iwagakure. Xiu's infiltration force included Jiraiya, Shisui, and Hyūga Tokuma; it infiltrated the village, placed the Four-Tails and Five-Tails jinchūriki under genjutsu, and forced the release of their Tailed Beasts. 29 33

The operation culminated in Xiu's battle with Ōnoki. Konoha's group withdrew through the Negación after surviving both Particle Style and a synchronized assault by Iwagakure's army. 35 36 Xiu later sealed the Four-Tails, Son Gokū, within himself and gained its cooperation. 38

War with the Land of Water

When the Land of Water invaded the Land of Fire, Konoha deployed the East Sea Team to the eastern front while its existing logistics and defensive arrangements continued functioning without Xiu's direct presence. 60

Kirigakure subsequently launched a major invasion. After recovering from his Inner Demon episode, Xiu entered the battlefield, defeated the invading forces, and captured Fourth Mizukage Karatachi Yagura alive. 61 62 During the later assault on Kirigakure, Xiu's Wood Release destroyed much of the village's resisting force; Genji ultimately agreed to merge Kirigakure with Konoha. 64

Role in the Ninja World

Konoha's internal revolution destabilized the balance among the Great Nations. Other powers initially interpreted Hiruzen's death as an opportunity to divide the Land of Fire, but Xiu's seizure of the Four-Tails and Five-Tails severely weakened Iwagakure's ability to mobilize. 39

Under the Fifth Hokage, Konoha shifted from a defensive village to an expansionist power. Xiu publicly planned to unify the Ninja World and later abolish the Daimyō system, arguing that Konoha no longer depended on Land of Fire funding. 57

By the time Madara returned to the battlefield, Konoha's forces included its traditional clans, revived former Hokage, Anbu units, the East Sea Team, and allies such as Tsunade and Jiraiya. 65 67 68
