Green Knights could have animal companions of their own, and in how they treated those companions, they were as serious as druids. Rangers regarded their animal companions as pets and friends. Though close, if one really had to compare, an animal companion's status was still lower than that of the ranger himself, even lower than friends and family who were likewise intelligent beings.

Druids, on the other hand, had far more sincere feelings for their animal companions. They saw them as family and brothers with whom they entrusted their lives. Either would die for the other.

Throughout history, many druids had died trying to save their animal companions. Others might find such beliefs a little extreme—after all, how could the life of a beast compare to that of a human? But to druids, animals and humans were no different. Both were creations of nature, equal, with no distinction between noble and lowly.

The Green Knights had inherited this outlook toward animal companions.
