Queen of Chaos did not disappoint Solam. This Obyrith overlord, famed for her cunning and patience, viciously ambushed the devil reinforcements advancing to provide support!
This was the advantage of besieging a city to strike its reinforcements. The target of the rescue was right there, and the enemy had only a few possible routes if they wanted to send aid. As long as those key routes were seized, the enemy reinforcements could be dealt a brutal blow. The purpose of those advancing reinforcements was to rescue the besieged city. Once they became entangled with the enemy, it meant their strategic objective had failed. Thus, in order to ensure their strategic goal was achieved, support forces would generally press forward at all costs.
That gave the intercepting side an enormous advantage. They did not need to fight the enemy over every inch of ground; they could retreat while fighting, blocking and wearing down the enemy at the same time. Then, once the enemy support forces had been sufficiently exhausted, the main army could strike with thunderous force while waiting at leisure.
Queen of Chaos was clearly very skilled at this. She had practically forced several devil armies that had come to provide aid into retreat, and had even launched counterattacks to seize several fortresses from the devils. As a result, the relief forces could only drift farther and farther away from Ferrug, leaving rescue indefinitely out of reach.
The devils inside Ferrug gradually began to sense this as well.
For three full days, Solam had kept Ferrug Fortress under constant, high-intensity siege without pausing for even a moment. To withstand Solam's unceasing assaults, the devils within the city had no choice but to divide their defenders into several groups and rotate them continuously, preserving their soldiers' stamina as much as possible.
