"Cough, cough... What the hell are these things? They're way too creepy!" Korgan Bloodaxe clutched the bone-deep wound on his shoulder, his face pale as he stared at the half-human, half-demonic monsters before him. Beside him, Philip also watched the monsters slaughtering their own people with a grave expression, equally shaken.
Like the Trism brothers, Korgan Bloodaxe and Philip had followed Solam's instructions to attack a spell node. At first, everything had gone smoothly. Aside from the vampires being somewhat troublesome, the Slaughter Cult members were hardly worth mentioning.
After all, the Slaughter Cult had only been active on the continent for a few years. They simply lacked the foundation to recruit many experts, so most of their members were merely criminals—assassins, thugs, murderers, and the like. They might have been troublesome for ordinary people, but to professionals, especially high-level professionals like Korgan Bloodaxe and the others, they were a piece of cake.
But everything changed after those fanatics completed their transformation. These monsters were incredibly difficult to deal with. Not only could they freely alter their bodies, but their bodies were absurdly tough. Whether spells or physical attacks, neither had much effect on them. More importantly, they also possessed considerable spellcasting abilities.
That drastic change caught Korgan Bloodaxe and Philip completely off guard, throwing them into a disadvantage at once.
If not for the fact that these things seemed to have numerous flaws, they would have been in even worse shape. After fighting for a while, the monsters actually began clutching their heads and wailing, then started slaughtering one another. They killed all the Slaughter Cult members who had been standing around and absorbed their souls.
"I don't know, but they're definitely not anything good. Be careful. I might not have the energy to protect you later," Philip said
