Delivering a Message

"You're quite obedient. Otherwise, hmph!" Solam had not expected this fellow to be so straightforward. He had been subdued without putting up the slightest resistance. One look told Solam that he was an assassin, and for an assassin, being captured without resisting was practically a disgrace. Yet this man had not only done it, but done so without the least awkwardness, as if it were only natural.

"I mean no harm. I merely came to deliver a message," the assassin said calmly, his expression unchanged even after being restrained.

Still, looking at this fellow, Solam felt a little admiration. Whatever his skills were like, this courage alone deserved praise. Having one's life held in another's hand and remaining completely unruffled was not something just anyone could manage.

"Sending a half-shadow creature to deliver a message?" Seeing the shadow energy radiating from the man's skin, Solam knew this could not possibly be anything good. Leaving aside everything else, this strange fellow had ignored the front door, sneaked into a corner, and watched Solam for half the day without making a sound. How could that possibly be good news?

Unless something truly major had happened, Fitzgerald would not waste one of his subordinates like this, sending a distinguished elite assassin to serve as a messenger.
