Monstrous Insects

These giant insects were all over five meters long, with the largest exceeding six meters. Their six legs were unlike those of ordinary burrowing insects, exceptionally thick and sturdy.

The front pair of legs even had shovel-like tips. Their mandibles were not as large as those of burrowing insects, but looked harder and sharper. Their bodies were an eerie black, gleaming with a metallic sheen and appearing incomparably tough.

"What kind of monster is this?" Maris muttered to himself. He had seen his fair share of things, yet he had never encountered a creature like this. He only felt that they resembled burrowing insects somewhat.

"Look, what are they doing?" Sim's voice interrupted Maris's thoughts. Maris hurriedly looked up. He discovered that the giant insects were not attacking the kobolds, and the kobolds showed no intention of fleeing either. They simply stood where they were, cheering as if celebrating something.

Several giant insects crawled out of the rock wall and slowly passed through the kobolds. They seemed not to notice the kobolds beneath their feet at all, crawling straight toward the piled-up kobold corpses before beginning to devour them in huge mouthfuls as though no one else was present.

At that moment, Solam noticed that the insects seemed to have no vision. There were no organs on their heads that could be called eyes—not even a pair of compound eyes. As they crawled forward, they ignored the kobolds blocking their way and simply crushed them beneath their bodies. Several kobolds were killed that way.

The other kobolds did not dare move at all. Only after seeing the insects begin to eat the corpses did they start cheering loudly again. The entire scene was both lively and bizarre.
