If I remember correctly, didn't you dragons get tortured half to death by the elves' 'Dracorage Mythal' long ago, then slink away from the stage of history? Who are you trying to scare with that nonsense now?"
Solam's words struck right at Klauth's sore spot.
The world had originally been ruled by the Creator Races, though they had existed so long ago that little was known about them. It was said that their power had been unimaginably great, and that the Nether Scrolls had been created during that era. These amphibian and avian creatures rapidly declined due to climate changes, died out, and regressed into primitive forms, never rising again.
Next came the age of giants and dragons. They ruled the earth and sky until the rise of the dwarves and the elves' use of powerful magic to cross the planes. The dwarves relied on their superiority in weapon forging to destroy the empire built by the giants. The elves, meanwhile, invented the "Dracorage Mythal" specifically for draconic creatures, reducing dragon numbers to a tiny fraction and forcing them to hide away and cling to life.
Whether they were the benevolent metallic dragons or the evil chromatic dragons, even now, every one of them burned with shame and indignation whenever this part of history was mentioned. One only had to look at Klauth's expression. It couldn't be helped; this was the greatest stain in dragonkind's history. Anyone who dared bring it up in front of a dragon would never meet a good end.
