Feelings?
Genkawa Uchiha found it all rather melodramatic.
He had transmigrated as a soul and retained memories from the womb. But no matter how complete those memories were, getting familiar with a new world took time.
That was why he spoke later than ordinary children. With memories from his previous life in his head, learning the Ninja World's language was equivalent to learning a foreign language.
On top of that, he had been young, so his parents naturally could not have discussed everything in front of him. As a result, what he knew about his parents in this life was limited to what he had personally learned.
And that part had been perfectly normal.
For example, his father, Hayato Uchiha, had been a standard Uchiha.
He had been quite handsome, awakened his Three-Tomoe Sharingan during the Third Shinobi World War, and was a jōnin of the clan with decent popularity among its members.
His mother was named Kumiko Uchiha. She had not been an outsider who married into the clan, but a member of the Uchiha Clan herself.
She had been beautiful, possessed a Three-Tomoe Sharingan as well, was also a clan jōnin, and was likewise well-liked within the clan.
Even within the Uchiha Clan, such a family had occupied a relatively high position.
That was not merely because both of them had been jōnin, but also because his family was related by blood to the Clan Head's branch.
All in all, those factors had given Genkawa Uchiha a good family background from childhood, and he had enjoyed a fine childhood as well.
Unfortunately, all of that had vanished when he was six.
And now Uchiha Setsuna was asking him how he felt?
He only found it absurd.
So after all this, he was actually the descendant of the orthodox Uchiha radicals?
Seeing him remain silent, Uchiha Setsuna assumed his words had shocked the boy before him and said, "Do you know why your parents went to assassinate Shimura Danzō?"
Genkawa Uchiha raised his eyes to look at him but said nothing.
Uchiha Setsuna did not care about his attitude. "The Uchiha Clan actually had a chance to improve its relationship with the village. We Uchiha may be extreme, but we are not fools. We also acknowledge ourselves as part of Konoha. But someone did not want to see that happen, and that person was Shimura Danzō."
Without giving Genkawa Uchiha time to react, he opened a book and pointed to it. "This book records one man's life. His name was Madara Uchiha. You should know him—the one who betrayed Konoha, known as the Asura of the Ninja World."
"Ever since him, the Uchiha's position in Konoha had plummeted. Things were still tolerable while the First Hokage was in office, as he had been quite accommodating toward the Uchiha. But once the Second Hokage took office, that changed. He was a truly sinister man, guarding against the Uchiha at every turn."
He opened another book—or rather, it was more of a booklet.
"This records another man's life. Unfortunately, he died too early. If he had still been alive, perhaps the Uchiha Clan really could have improved its relationship with the village."
Genkawa Uchiha glanced at the booklet. On its first page was a name—Kagami Uchiha.
Uchiha Setsuna continued, "Kagami Uchiha was a few years younger than me, roughly my contemporary. He was also a disciple of Tobirama Senju, the Second Hokage."
He seemed to have fallen into remembrance, growing somewhat long-winded in the way old men often did.
"Kagami had good talent and a good temperament. He was one of the rare oddities among the Uchiha. After Tobirama Senju chose him as a disciple, his standing within the clan became different. Back then, we all believed he would become a bridge of communication between the clan and the village."
"Unfortunately, he died too young, and his death was far too suspicious."
At that point, Uchiha Setsuna gave a cold laugh.
"Given your intelligence, it should not be difficult for you to guess who was involved in his death, should it?"
Genkawa Uchiha expressionlessly spoke a name. "Shimura Danzō."
Uchiha Setsuna's smile turned even colder.
"That is right. It was that man. Though there was no direct evidence, Kagami had survived the First Shinobi World War as an elite jōnin. It was impossible for him to die without a sound. Yet he died during an ordinary mission, and on that mission, he had been with Shimura Danzō."
Genkawa Uchiha nodded lightly, without doubting the truth of those words.
Shimura Danzō had been the designated scapegoat for decades. Pinning this blame on him was perfectly reasonable.
"The bridge of communication between the clan and the village was gone, and he might even have died at a companion's hands. Can you imagine the consequences?"
Genkawa Uchiha's reply was brief.
"Someone did not want to see the Uchiha repair their relationship with the village."
Uchiha Setsuna burst into laughter.
"Exactly. Just as expected of you, Genkawa-kun. Your intelligence surprises me."
His tone remained unchanged. "You could think of something at your age that no one believed back then. Can you understand the anger in my heart when I realized it under those circumstances?"
Without waiting for Genkawa Uchiha to answer, he said hatefully, "The Hawk Faction in the clan and I intended to seize that opportunity to challenge Konoha's upper ranks, especially to take revenge on Shimura Danzō."
Shaking his head, Uchiha Setsuna sighed.
"Unfortunately, the news leaked. The village's upper ranks made preparations in advance and directly sent Anbu personnel to detain me."
Genkawa Uchiha's mouth twitched.
What a lame revenge plan.
"What, brat? Do you find this old man laughable?"
Genkawa Uchiha nodded and bluntly criticized him. "Your operation was not kept secret, so failure was inevitable. Shouldn't you be mocked?"
Uchiha Setsuna choked, glaring fiercely at Genkawa Uchiha. Even the tomoe in his eyes spun faster.
"Humph!"
In the end, he could only snort coldly.
"Do not underestimate Shimura Danzō's methods. That man had actually developed spies within the clan. Back then, I could not have imagined such a thing."
"And then? Stop rambling."
Genkawa Uchiha rudely cut off his self-justification.
The corners of Uchiha Setsuna's eyes twitched twice, but he ultimately restrained his temper.
"And then? Then I was released. But because of that, the clan learned what I had done. The Hawk Faction shattered and fell silent from then on. I was stripped of my status as a clan elder and made to live guarding the Shrine."
"So what about my parents?"
"Your father was highly talented and gradually came to sense the village's malice toward the Uchiha. He found me, and I told him everything that had happened. After that, he planned to assassinate Shimura Danzō."
For some reason, Uchiha Setsuna felt a chill and instinctively explained, "I tried to persuade him, but unfortunately..."
His tone was somewhat strange.
"As a member of the Uchiha, you should understand the Uchiha. Once any Uchiha has decided on something, they cannot be changed. Madara Uchiha was like that. I was like that. Kagami Uchiha was like that. Your parents were like that too."
The meaning was obvious—every single Uchiha was damn stubborn!
Genkawa Uchiha's tone remained calm. "So he went with my mother to assassinate Shimura Danzō, and they failed?"
Uchiha Setsuna nodded. "Yes, they failed, without question. But to avoid provoking the Uchiha Clan further, the village's upper ranks chose to conceal it."
As he spoke, he pushed a scroll forward.
"Before that, your father had made a request. If they failed, he asked me to give Izanagi to you. Of course, only after you possessed sufficient strength. And now, I believe the time is right."
Genkawa Uchiha did not waste words. He directly took the scroll and tucked it into his clothes.
To be honest, his emotions were complicated right now, so much so that he did not know how to describe them.
To him, his parents in this life had been qualified parents. They had given him ample familial affection and care.
But now he had discovered that his parents were no different from those Uchiha he disliked. It would have been strange if he could feel normal about that.
"So, brat, now that you know all of this, what will you choose?"
Uchiha Setsuna stared intently at Genkawa Uchiha, as if trying to see through him.
"Will you choose to keep pretending you know nothing, as you do now? Pretend you do not know how your parents died, do not know the Uchiha Clan's situation, and continue living your current life? Or... inherit your parents' will and contribute your strength to the clan?"
Before you continue
