History

Foundation and influence

The Holy City was established at the western edge of the Alps after the Heavenly Father raised the radiance of the Seventh Heaven and ascended into the Light Plane. The power He left behind gave rise to the Holy City and its future Archangel Chiefs. 261

For thousands of years, it stood as the world's supreme holy land of magic. Its creation of the star system greatly reduced the difficulty of learning magic: instead of relying on exceptional comprehension, mages could cast spells by arranging stars along defined orbits. This expanded humanity's magical population and strengthened its ability to resist demonic beasts. 269

Despite this contribution, the city's authority became widely resented. It remained untouched while disasters struck the rest of the world, and other nations and magical organizations viewed its attitude as aloof and self-serving. 261

Heresy conflict

After Jiang Yuan intervened in the Twisted Ghost Emperor incident at Parthenon Sacred Mountain, Holy City Forbidden Curse Mages debated whether to classify him as a heretic. Archangel Michael ultimately declared him one. 231

The Orthodox Church later attempted to take Mu Nujiao to the Holy City for investigation because of her connection to Jiang Yuan. Zu Xiangtian claimed that the city could summon any mage without needing a reason, and that no imperial court or Asian Magic Association would oppose it. 259

Jiang Yuan entered the Holy City openly with Mu Nujiao. Though heretics were normally identifiable through a heretic mark, he bore none and initially passed inspection. Patrol Mage Lande eventually identified him and ordered his arrest. 261

Institutions and Authority

Archangels

The Holy City was governed through the Heavenly Father's Archangels, who acted as His shepherds in the mortal world. Angelic power could be used outside the city, but their power to control the origin of magic was restricted to the Holy City itself. 241

Orthodox Church and heresy enforcement

The Orthodox Church operated as an enforcement arm of the Holy City. It pursued wanted heretics and could compel mages associated with them to undergo investigation. 259

The city also used a worldwide heretic-marking system. Once branded, a heretic could be accurately identified and located by the Heresy Tribunal. 261

Defenses and Magical Systems

Control of magic's origin

Within the Holy City, its rulers could control the origin of magic. This authority allowed them to suppress ordinary mages and, in some cases, strip a mage's magic soul and deprive them of conventional magical power. Elemental Seeds and power drawn from the Dark Plane were exceptions to this threat. 169 264

Divine Might

During Jiang Yuan's attack, Michael led the city's mages in a combined spell called Divine Might. Countless golden ripples merged into a massive golden blade meant to break through Jiang Yuan's darkness, but he dispersed it immediately. 263

Magic Sealing Array

The citywide Magic Sealing Array was linked to every Holy City Flower. When activated, the flowers changed from pale red to blue and released magic-sealing power that stripped black mist from Jiang Yuan's body. 265

Reflected Holy City

Michael created a Reflected Holy City above the real city to isolate the Emperor-level battle and prevent the original city from being destroyed by collateral damage. Jiang Yuan shattered this reflected construct almost immediately. 263 264

Seven Layered Heavenly Mountain

The Holy City's greatest appeal to the Heavenly Father used the Three Saints' Array and manifested the Seven Layered Heavenly Mountain, a projection of the Heavenly Father's seven-layered Light Plane domain. 265

The Heavenly Father blessed Uriel, Raphael, and Raguel, allowing them to become Fourteen-winged Seraphim. Their united angelic statue was nevertheless destroyed by Jiang Yuan. 265

Holy City Flower

Holy City Flowers were pale-red flowers cultivated throughout the city, appearing outside buildings, shops, and residences. They were regarded as a local symbol and were sold at extremely high prices. 261

• Their fragrance was said to bring good luck, sweet dreams, and faster mental-strength cultivation. 261
• Picking one from the streets carried a five-million fine if discovered by Patrol Mages. 261
• Through the Plant Consciousness Network, Jiang Yuan awakened the flowers and viewed the city's history through them. 261

Fall of the Holy City

Jiang Yuan's arrival triggered a full-scale conflict. The city's Super Level Mages, Forbidden Curse Mages, Orthodox Church members, Patrol Mages, Golden Dragon Eye, and four Archangels gathered against him. 263

Jiang Yuan defeated the Golden Dragon and imprisoned it in the sixth layer of the Underworld. He then fought Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Raguel in the Reflected Holy City, defeating them and capturing Michael. 263 264

With the Underworld Gateway opened, an undead death tide flooded the city. Uriel, Raphael, and Raguel activated the Magic Sealing Array and summoned the Heavenly Father's projection, but neither the array nor the Heavenly Father's blessing could stop Jiang Yuan. 265

The Heavenly Father did not directly save the city. Jiang Yuan captured the remaining resisting Archangels, sent them to the Underworld, and declared the Holy City's fall to the world. 266

“I am the King of Underworld. The Holy City has fallen.” 266

Ruins and aftermath

The destruction of the Holy City severely damaged the nearby Alps Academy, collapsing more than half of its buildings. 268

The ruins became blanketed in Holy City Flowers and developed into a forbidden zone. Those who entered reportedly lost consciousness within seconds, fell into the flowers, and never returned; Super Level Mages were not exempt. 268 269

The danger was believed capable of spreading through the Alps Mountain Range and turning it into a larger deathly forbidden zone. 269

Following the city's fall, Dean Xiao proposed the creation of a new organization to maintain magical order and develop new systems. Jiang Yuan subsequently established the Supreme Magic Council as a replacement framework for global magical governance. 319 337
