Background

Lu Xian died from overwork as a corporate employee on Blue Star and arrived in the Douluo Continent with the soul of a 30-year-old. Orphaned in his new life, he awakened only level-one Innate Soul Power and an apparently useless silver orb Martial Soul. He spent six years surviving as a work-study student at Notting Academy and expected to live an ordinary life as a gate guard after obtaining a basic ten-year ring. 1

While cleaning the academy’s back mountain, his Martial Soul absorbed the broom he was leaning on and produced a ten-year Soul Ring. He later discovered that a person using the bound broom could feed soul power back to him. After waiting for Tang San to return from soul hunting, Lu Xian made Tang San the broom’s first host and began using a fabricated “Jinx” divine inheritance to steer him into completing trials. 1 2 3

The wish system allowed Lu Xian to take the larger share of each worker’s cultivation and Soul Ring-age rewards while still granting enough to keep them motivated. After reaching level 100, Lu Xian exploited a loophole in his Martial Soul by binding himself as his tenth Soul Ring. The resulting million-year ring gave him four exceptionally powerful Soul Skills and confirmed that level 100 was not the endpoint of his cultivation. Lu Xian has treated Tang San’s future as a long-term threat. Rather than kill Tang San outright and risk intervention by Asura or the Sea God, he intends to use a future Jinx trial to force Tang San to kill Sea God Island’s Seven Sacred Pillars, thereby making him an enemy of the Sea God’s faction. 213 232
