Ten Thousand Flowers Pavilion was like a bystander in Nanli City.
They didn't take part in the conflicts between the city's factions, but they did make a business of selling information and inciting strife.
No matter which faction in the city was wiped out or who died, it had no effect on them.
Flowers bloomed and withered, just as life did; birth and death were ordinary things.
The songs still rang out, and the dances went on.
Every day, new guests came seeking pleasure and revelry, while old patrons sometimes left and never returned, never to be seen again.
Lin Fei left Ten Thousand Flowers Pavilion and headed to an inn.
He rented a private room to use as a temporary safe house.
Buying information alone was nowhere near enough to avenge his wife and child, whose deaths had left him with a blood feud.
Finding people willing to help was unlikely, too.
The Blood Wolf Gang had numbers, deep roots, and many Qi Refining experts. Even Li Ruxue wasn't willing to get involved in such a mess.
So he could only rely on himself for revenge.
Whoosh!
Lin Fei summoned the Space Gate and returned to Earth. It was still dark.
Standing by the window, he gazed at the neon lights in the distance, his heart filled with nothing but desolation.
"Peach Blossom..."
"I should have brought you here sooner, to see the world I live in. Maybe then you wouldn't have died."
"If there's no way to get revenge in Nanli City, then I'll find one on Earth."
Lin Fei remembered that when he and Wu Zhen had discussed martial arts realms, Zhou Wangdao had said something.
No matter how powerful martial arts were, could they withstand bullets and guns?
Earth had technological weapons that Nanli City didn't.
If he relied on martial arts, even another few decades of training wouldn't be enough to avenge himself.
If he could get his hands on guns and ammunition, there might be hope.
But the sale of guns and ammunition was prohibited in Great Xia Nation.
The only country Lin Fei knew of where guns could be bought and sold legally was America.
He looked it up online. To travel abroad, he needed a passport and a visa.
Applying for them involved a series of procedures, and it would take many days.
Whenever Lin Fei closed his eyes, he saw the moment Peach Blossom had died. He couldn't wait another second.
Peach Blossom must have been helpless in her final moments.
She must have called his name, begged him to save her...
Whenever that image crossed his mind, Lin Fei's heart twisted in pain, leaving him unable to sleep.
After turning the matter over in his mind, he realized that if he wanted to get a passport and visa as quickly as possible, he might have to trouble Wu Zhen.
Given Longhua Group's standing and influence in Yunzhou, they should be able to get his passport and visa quickly.
After daybreak, Lin Fei drove to Dragon Imperial Mansion.
Before either of them had said a word, Wu Zhen embraced him with a broad grin.
"Hahaha, Lin Fei, I was just about to ask you over today. I didn't expect you to come looking for me first."
Wu Zhen's face was flushed, and he was full of energy, as if something wonderful had happened.
"Uncle Wu, I came to ask you for help today."
"Hahaha, no problem."
Wu Zhen agreed without even asking what it was.
He didn't notice that Lin Fei was in poor spirits at all; he was simply eager to share his good news.
"It's all thanks to that Body Strengthening Pill you gave me. I took it, and the effects were incredible."
"I'd been stuck at the Bright Force realm, but after taking the pill, I broke through to the Dark Force realm in one go. My strength increased tremendously, and I was so excited I couldn't sleep all night."
Wu Yuqing came out wearing pink cartoon pajamas, clutching a stuffed doll and yawning.
"Dad, you're not a little kid anymore. How come you're acting like one? You're not composed at all."
"Yaaawn... Lin Fei, why are you at our house so early? Is something up?"
After sharing his good news, Wu Zhen finally asked why Lin Fei had come.
"Lin Fei, whatever it is, just say it. Don't be shy."
"Uncle Wu, I'll be direct. I have an urgent matter and need to go to America, but it'll take a while to get my visa and passport."
For every day that passed on Earth, more than three months passed in Nanli City.
Lin Fei didn't want to delay and let his enemies live comfortably for that much longer.
"I wanted to ask if there's any way you can help me get out of the country as soon as possible. Ideally, I'd leave today."
Wu Zhen and Wu Yuqing both looked surprised.
"Lin Fei, what happened? Is it really that urgent?"
"Could it be that someone found out something about those gold coins you exchanged?"
Lin Fei shook his head. He couldn't tell them the truth, so he could only make up an excuse.
"There's nothing wrong with the coins. They're all clean. I'm in such a hurry to go abroad because a close friend of mine is in America."
"He's in critical condition. I want to see him one last time. I really can't wait."
Wu Zhen could tell that Lin Fei was genuinely anxious and seemed troubled, so he believed him.
"I see. Don't worry. Let me make a call."
Wu Zhen stepped away. A few minutes later, he returned with a smile.
"Lin Fei, I pulled some strings. I can get your passport and visa for you within a day."
"Get your personal information and photos ready and send them to me. Once everything's done, I'll have them delivered to you."
Lin Fei stood and bowed to Wu Zhen.
"Thank you, Uncle Wu!"
The formality of Lin Fei's thanks caught Wu Zhen off guard.
"It's a small thing. No need to thank me."
"I'll go back and get my information and photos ready. Once I'm back from America, I'll come visit you again."
Lin Fei hurried out.
Wu Yuqing scratched her head and said doubtfully, "Dad, I can't help feeling there's something strange about Lin Fei. He seems a little off!"
"Yeah, I noticed it too."
Wu Zhen's joy at breaking through to the Dark Force realm had faded.
"Maybe he's worried about his friend. When someone's about to die, it's hard not to be unsettled."
After returning home, Lin Fei sent Wu Zhen the information and photos he'd prepared.
Then he checked flights to America and booked a ticket for the following morning.
Xu Youle called Lin Fei and asked him to come over to sign the warehouse contract.
Though Lin Fei was in low spirits, he didn't let himself fall apart.
Life had to go on for those still alive.
He still had to go ahead with growing medicinal herbs in Nanli City, so he needed to get a warehouse ready.
Lin Fei signed the contract and paid a year's rent. Then he told Xu Youle and Zheng Qian to clear out the warehouse and put some security measures in place.
As soon as he'd finished dealing with that, the medicinal herb dealer Du Heng called.
Lin Fei arranged to meet Du Heng at a hotel.
Once they met, Lin Fei cut straight to the point and settled the details with Du Heng: the herbs he needed, the quantities, the prices, and so on.
After they finished, Du Heng invited Lin Fei to dinner, but Lin Fei declined.
His mind was full of thoughts of revenge. How could he be in the mood for drinks and socializing? He could only say they would celebrate over drinks once the contract had been officially signed.
That afternoon, Lin Fei's passport and visa were ready.
What's more, Wu Zhen had thoughtfully prepared a bank card for him, with U.S. dollars in it.
Lin Fei was a little touched. It was his first time traveling abroad, and he hadn't thought of that at all.
"Lin Fei, there's a million U.S. dollars on this card. Take it for now."
"You're going to America alone, somewhere unfamiliar, and you don't speak the language."
"I'm worried something unexpected might happen and you won't know how to handle it. This is the number of a friend of mine. He's a lawyer. If you run into trouble over there, you can contact him for help."
Only then did Lin Fei realize how impulsive—and even foolish—he'd been. He hadn't prepared nearly enough.
He might be on Earth, but America was still a completely foreign country to him.
If he accidentally broke the local laws, he might never make it back.
