Background / History

Founding in the Myriad Demon Sea

The Mountain Sea Alliance was formed after Lin Fei defeated Yin Qianshan and compelled the major factions of the Myriad Demon Sea—including Mist Fiend Island, Ice Demon Island, and Bliss Island—to surrender. Lin Fei offered amnesty for prior grievances and promised that the newly united factions would support one another. 799

Lin Fei selected the name himself, declaring that its members would be “the mountains of this sea,” standing in the Myriad Demon Sea permanently. Though many early members submitted under pressure from Dongfang Qingcang and the Heaven Soul Banner, the alliance gave the previously chaotic sea region a unified authority. 799 800

Its original strategic purpose was not simply regional rule: Lin Fei created the alliance to accumulate enough manpower and resources to avenge his master against the Earth Dragon Sect. 801

Consolidation under Bliss Island

Bliss Island became the alliance’s headquarters after Lin Fei rejected Mist Fiend Island and Ice Demon Island as unsuitable due to their dense fiendish and yin energies. 800

The alliance centralized spirit herbs, medicinal herbs, and natural treasures. Members received contribution points based on the value of their surrendered resources, then exchanged those points for pills, magic treasures, and other necessities. Alchemists and artifact refiners were likewise placed under unified command. 799

After conflict with sea beasts escalated into a siege of Bliss Island, Lin Fei released three captured Demon Venerables rather than kill them. This decision convinced many sea-region demonic beasts that the alliance could be trusted. 823 824

The alliance subsequently accepted large numbers of demon beasts through master-servant contracts and soul-blood submission. Lin Fei planned to use them to form the Myriad Demon Squad, allowing sea beasts to seek treasures and capture stronger sea beasts without provoking further large-scale wars. 824

The alliance sought cooperation with the Mystic Heart Sect against the Earth Dragon Sect, offering military aid in exchange for the defeated sect’s cultivation resources. Golden Narcissus served as its envoy during these negotiations. 801 802

It later faced its most serious early threat when the Fang Family gathered 137 Immortal Cultivation Families to besiege Bliss Island. The reconstruction campaign initially had no restriction on joining factions, while unaffiliated factions could commission only one item during the one-year recruitment period. Within three months, twenty-three Human Immortal-backed cultivation factions had publicly joined. 1321 1322

Conflict with the Five Great Celestial Immortal Families

When Jun Jiutian fought five Perfect Void Insight Realm experts from the Five Great Celestial Immortal Families after they insulted the alliance, he killed two opponents and survived confrontations with two who subsequently advanced to the Human Immortal Realm. The Cangming Sea Dragon convened the alliance’s seventy-three factions and identified Jun as the current Alliance Leader, warning that the Celestial Immortal Families would likely retaliate. 1445

The assembly revealed the limits of the alliance’s unity. Xiao Hongmei and several factions, including the Linghai Sect, Great Yellow Gate, Ice Heart Valley, and eventually the Heavenly Evolution Sect, publicly affirmed that they would honor their Heavenly Dao Oaths; however, many factions initially hesitated out of fear of provoking Celestial Immortal enemies. 1445

The threat materialized when the Thunder Family and Yuan Family patriarchs arrived at Pearl Island and demanded Jun Jiutian’s surrender. The Yuan Family patriarch destroyed Xiao Hongmei’s Human Immortal incarnation after she invoked the non-retaliation oath governing the earlier battle, while many allied Eternal Giants remained silent. 1446

The Heavenly Secrets Elder then appeared on behalf of the Heavenly Evolution Sect, invoked its oath to protect the alliance, and established a standoff with the two Celestial Immortals. He stated that Pearl Island’s defensive formation could not be broken while he was present and implied that the alliance possessed further hidden protection. 1446

Sea Emperor and the Immortal Island

At a later Immortal Island gathering, the Heavenly Secrets Elder requested ten entry places for Mountain Sea Alliance cultivators through the Heavenly Evolution Sect. The Five Great Sects and Five Great Celestial Immortal Families rejected the request on the grounds that only forces directly overseen by Celestial Immortals could participate. 1476

Zhan Honglei then appeared as a Celestial Immortal avatar and publicly declared himself the Mountain Sea Alliance’s Supreme Alliance Leader, the “Sea Emperor.” He asserted the alliance’s territorial authority over the Myriad Demon Sea and threatened to seal the Immortal Island so that none of the other factions could leave if the alliance remained excluded. 1476

The major factions accepted the alliance’s participation after Zhan Honglei’s intervention, subject to the rule that each force could send only ten cultivators below the Human Immortal Realm.
