Background and History

Wu Tong was acquainted with Luo Zhe before the latter's first wilderness mission. At a martial artists' gathering, he and Chen Gu spoke with the newly recruited fighter; Wu Tong later told Luo Zhe about the World Destroyer and Nine-Fold Thunder Blade manuals 13.

At a subsequent gathering, Wu Tong tried to introduce Luo Zhe to Zhou Yu, captain of Wu Tong's former squad. Chen Gu mistook the introduction for an attempt to recruit Luo Zhe away from the Fire Hammer Squad. Wu Tong reassured him, but his explanation to Zhou Yu inadvertently gave Zhou Yu the impression that Luo Zhe was a privileged young master 16.

As head of the Yangzhou City Limit Dojo, Wu Tong oversaw prospective martial artist assessments and advised candidates on their training. Following Zhuge Tao's instructions, he arranged for Luo Zhe and Luo Feng to join the Fire Hammer Squad so they could gain wilderness experience under veteran captain Gao Feng 17 19 20.

When headquarters envoy Yang Hui asked for Luo Zhe's latest fitness data and combat record, Wu Tong could not provide them. He explained that Luo Zhe trained largely in seclusion and called on squad member Chen Gu to report what he knew. Yang Hui and Zhou Zhengyong criticized Wu Tong's lack of information 64 65. Soon afterward, Wu Tong went to fetch Luo Zhe for the envoy and acknowledged that Luo Zhe's combat strength had likely surpassed his own 66.

Personality

Wu Tong is sociable with younger martial artists: he jokes with Chen Gu, serves newcomers drinks at the dojo bar, and speaks to Luo Zhe familiarly 16 20 66. He also gives direct training advice, warning Yang Wu that attempting dangerous close-range evasions before mastering basic movement would leave too little room for error 19.
