As the electromagnetic pulse energy reached 100%, Kaplan prepared to press the button.

Just then, the Red Queen suddenly turned her head and said to everyone, "You will all die underground!"

After the Red Queen's main power supply was cut off, nearly all the lights throughout The Hive went out in an instant.

However, the darkness did not last long. The backup automatic generators soon started up, and the lights gradually came back on.

But just as she was about to call out, she recalled Ren Ze's repeated warnings as a "suspected high-ranking official." She immediately raised her gun and aimed it at the woman leaning against the wall.

"Hey, say something!"

Rain kept her gun trained on the woman in white and called out.

Upon hearing Rain's words, the woman against the wall suddenly raised her head. Then, like a starving beast, she lunged at Rain with cloudy eyes staring wide and a bloodied maw agape.

Seeing this, Rain instantly raised her gun and fired at the woman without hesitation.

The bullet tore through the Zombie's body with such force that it knocked her straight to the ground.

Watching the Zombie tremble as it climbed back to its feet, Rain sneered and fired another bullet straight through its head.

"Sure enough, Mr. Ren was right. The best way to deal with these monsters is to target their heads!"

Hearing the gunshots, J.D. quickly ran over. Looking at Rain and the corpse on the ground, he asked, "Rain, what happened?"

"J.D., just like Mr. Ren said, there are Zombies here! I tested it. Shooting other parts of their bodies doesn't do much. Only a shot to the head can kill them!"

Rain looked at J.D. as she spoke.

Hearing Rain's words, J.D. hesitated briefly before walking over to the Zombie's corpse. He crouched down and examined it closely, then frowned. "You're right. The blood spilled on the ground has already coagulated. You know only a dead person's blood does that."

At that moment, Ren Ze and the captain's group arrived as well.

Rain quickly stepped up to Ren Ze and the others, then asked, "Is the mission complete?"

"Yes!"

Captain James nodded. He then glanced at Ren Ze and explained what had happened.

After hearing Captain James's account, Rain first turned to Ren Ze and sincerely thanked him. Then she turned around and punched Kaplan.

"Once we get out, I'm going to give you a proper beating!"

Hearing Rain's vicious words, Kaplan's face immediately turned bitter. The brown-haired girl, Rain, was a violent maniac. Being targeted by her was no pleasant experience.

As everyone spoke, the sound of metal scraping across the ground rang out behind them. Hearing it, everyone turned to look.

They saw a Zombie with one ankle bent at a ninety-degree angle dragging an axe as it approached them with a grotesque expression. Behind it were many more Zombies.

"You keep an eye on your backs. Leave these Zombies in front of us to me!"

Ren Ze stretched lazily, then held the Blood Shadow War Blade in his right hand and pulled the shield from his back with his left before walking toward the Zombies.

Come to think of it, this was the first time Ren Ze had formally used the shield since obtaining it. In the Wilderness Zone, his footwork meant he had basically never needed one. But now was clearly not the time to show off. He was scared—no matter how strong he was, he still feared the virus!

"Mr. Ren!"

Seeing Ren Ze's actions, Captain James had barely called out when Ren Ze showed no intention of stopping.

"There's still a big battle ahead. This is the perfect chance to loosen up with these Zombies!"

With that, Ren Ze leaped forward and instantly charged over.

Watching Ren Ze charge headlong into the Zombie horde with his war blade, killing one small Zombie with every clean stroke, Captain James and the others were dumbfounded.

In a situation like this, wouldn't it make more sense to spray them with rifle fire?

Before they could finish letting their imaginations run wild, they saw Ren Ze charge resolutely into the encirclement of Zombies. With a battle saber in hand, he swung it so densely that not even a drop of water could pass through, while the shield in his left hand defended without a single flaw. Watching Ren Ze handle himself with ease amid the Zombie horde, as though he were merely playing around, Kaplan looked at the lightning-fast battle saber, then lowered his head to look at the computer on his wrist and the submachine gun in his hand. He could not help turning to Captain James and saying, "Captain, this is the first time I've realized that cold weapons seem more powerful than the weapons we carry!"

"That's only if you're an expert like Mr. Ren!"

Captain James shot Kaplan an annoyed look, then said to everyone behind him, "Stay one hundred and twenty thousand percent alert. Those dangerous, disgusting things could appear around us at any moment!"

Once Ren Ze had cleared out the nearby Zombies, the other members of the assault team followed Captain James and retreated in tactical formation.

"Take another route. Don't use the elevator—the elevator is probably full of Zombies!"

When Ren Ze saw the team reach the elevator leading to the upper level, he promptly warned them before they could crack the password.

At that moment, another group of Zombies suddenly emerged from the side.

The instant they saw them, the assault team members opened fire. They had firmly remembered Ren Ze's words, so they showed absolutely no mercy when Zombies appeared, firing directly at their heads.

Unlike in the movie, Captain James and the others had not died, so the assault team still had a complete assault unit to cover one another. Ren Ze also took a great deal of pressure off them, leaving the Zombies steadily driven back under their fire.

Alice had already recovered more than half her memories. In particular, when a Zombie had lunged at her on the previous floor, she had instinctively sent it flying with a kick, and a bullet from her weapon had struck it right between the eyebrows.

She knew that, with her memories returning, she was extremely skilled—at the very least, she was no weaker than the squad before her.

Yet the more she realized this, the more Alice understood how powerful Ren Ze was. Only by his side did she feel safe.
