Alice and the assault team members followed behind Ren Ze, running nonstop through The Hive underground. Zombies kept pouring out from side passages; if they let their guard down even slightly or slowed their pace, they would surely die in the zombies' jaws.
Because the space was so cramped, Ren Ze's deliberate negligence eventually resulted in someone being scratched by a zombie that suddenly lunged out. The man who had been scratched was precisely the one Ren Ze had always wanted to kill but had never found an excuse to act against.
Spence—the culprit behind this biological disaster, Alice's fake husband—had stolen the T-Virus and Anti-toxin Serum for enormous profits, intending to sell them on the black market. Before leaving, he had gone insane in order to conceal his tracks, deliberately knocking over a vial of T-Virus and turning everyone in The Hive underground into zombies.
However, aside from planting the Life-Death Talisman on him at the beginning, Ren Ze had not rushed to kill him. The others knew none of this; killing the man rashly would only lower their opinion of him. He had wanted to kill with a borrowed knife just now, but he had not expected this guy to be so lucky.
At last, the group arrived at the laboratory where the T-Virus and serum were supposed to have been stored. Perhaps because she had returned to a familiar place, Alice's memories began to return. Meanwhile, Spence, who was not far away, finally recovered all of his memories as well.
Once all his memories had returned, he understood perfectly well that he was responsible for all of this.
While everyone was examining the laboratory, Spence cautiously backed away. Ren Ze, who had been watching him in secret, did not expose him.
"Alice, are you saying this is where The Hive researched and stored the T-Virus?"
Hearing Alice mutter to herself, assault team captain James asked her. Suddenly, a ripple spread across the previously still water underground. Then a female zombie in a white lab coat abruptly rose up, opening her bloody maw and lunging at Alice.
Alice, whose memories had returned, was extremely agile. She swiftly stepped back, planted a foot on a crate, and leaped into the air, kicking the zombie away with a single strike.
The others also raised their weapons and fired controlled shots at the zombie's head.
Taking advantage of that moment, while no one was paying attention, Spence swiftly ran off.
At that moment, Spence had no idea that Ren Ze had already set his sights on him.
After escaping the laboratory, Spence headed straight outside The Hive's main entrance. He rushed into the small train, found the suitcase he had hidden, then sat down somewhere on the platform, preparing to take out the T-Virus Anti-toxin Serum and inject himself.
The suitcase had barely been opened when a series of footsteps suddenly echoed from the passageway.
Hearing the sound, Spence quickly turned to look in that direction.
The next moment, Ren Ze and the others gradually emerged from the passageway.
As it turned out, Alice had recovered her memories just after Spence left and called out his name. Only then did everyone realize he was gone. The laboratory where the T-Virus Anti-toxin Serum had been stored was also completely empty, so they hurriedly followed Ren Ze out.
"Don't come any closer!"
When he saw Ren Ze, Alice, and the entire assault team coming toward him, Spence's face tightened with panic. Remembering Ren Ze slaughtering his way through the zombie horde, Spence pulled out a pistol from behind his back and aimed it directly at Ren Ze.
Seeing Ren Ze held at gunpoint, Alice and the assault team members all raised their weapons at Spence. Just as a gunfight was about to erupt, Ren Ze waved a hand, signaling them to lower their guns and retreat behind the corner.
"To be honest, I really hate it when people point guns at me!"
Ren Ze advanced step by step. Thinking of the reason he had come to this world, an inexplicable fury rose within him as he silently seethed. A martial artist holding a sniper rifle at long range is a serious threat to my life. And you, a little punk with a lousy handgun, think you can threaten me?
"Don't!"
Alice wanted to rush out.
"Rain, keep an eye on Alice. Don't come out, any of you. It wouldn't be worth getting hit by a stray bullet."
Looking at Spence, whose gun-holding hand was shaking uncontrollably—whether from the Life-Death Talisman or sheer nerves, Ren Ze did not know—Ren Ze spoke without a care.
"Y-you lunatic!"
Hearing Ren Ze's words, Spence suddenly shouted with a twisted expression, "I'm about to get out of here! Why are you still chasing after me? Do you know that, just to get the T-Virus serum, I locked everyone in The Hive inside the laboratory?"
"Do you know that as long as I sell this T-Virus serum, it'll fetch an astronomical price on the black market? I'll never have to worry about the rest of my life! I won't let anyone destroy the countless riches that belong to me!"
With that, Spence, his face twisted with rage, suddenly fired several shots at Ren Ze.
The moment Spence opened fire, Alice and the others behind Ren Ze could not help closing their eyes.
The distance was too short—less than five meters. An ordinary person had no way of dodging bullets.
They could practically imagine Ren Ze being struck by the bullets.
It was not a sight they could bear to witness. After all, Ren Ze had helped them so much along the way.
Alice instinctively shut her eyes, unwilling to see Ren Ze collapse to the ground.
Was Ren Ze confident he could move faster than a bullet?
No. But he was confident he could move faster than Spence could pull the trigger!
Ren Ze, who had been watching Spence the whole time, moved. Using the Lingbo Micro-steps, he left an afterimage as he slipped past the gun's aim and flashed toward Spence from an elegant angle.
Before Spence could shift his aim, Ren Ze was already in front of him. His right hand lightly pressed down on Spence's head. The next moment, Spence's head tilted to one side, and he went silent forever.
Looking at Spence lying on the ground with an expression of utter disbelief, Ren Ze stepped forward and picked up the suitcase.
Holding the suitcase and looking at Spence, who could not believe until his death that someone could dodge bullets, Ren Ze could not help shrugging. "The facts prove that I'm still faster!"
"Thank God you're all right!"
Alice rushed over and threw her arms around Ren Ze, then spoke in relief.
Feeling Alice's hot, soft body in his arms, Ren Ze felt that all the goodwill he had built up along the way had not been for nothing. Alice had taken advantage of him again.
What Ren Ze did not know was that during her time in The Hive, after losing her memories, Alice had been at her most vulnerable. She did not know how capable she was, nor did she know what she was about to face.
Thus, when Captain James and the others brought her into The Hive, it had been the most helpless moment in Alice's heart.
Even though Alice had regained her memories by now, she still developed a fondness for Ren Ze from the bottom of her heart. As long as she saw him and stayed by his side, she felt exceptionally safe.
The stronger a woman appeared, the more insecure she often was deep down. That was why she could only face everyone and this world with strength.
