Background / History

Nawaki is Tsunade's younger brother and a member of the Senju Clan. He is publicly regarded as the Senju family's young clan head, carrying expectations as one of the clan's remaining promising youths. He also refers to Senju Tobirama as his granduncle. 15 18

He first encounters Shangguan Yue after finding him asleep in Tsunade's bedroom. Assuming Yue is a thief, Nawaki immediately attacks him; the two instead take their dispute outside and use one another as practice partners. 12

Nawaki initially loses their first spar after exhausting himself with Water Release. Rather than accept defeat, he calls for a “temporary truce,” challenges Yue to future rematches, and declares his ambition to become Hokage. 13 His shock intensifies when Yue reveals that he is Tsunade's fiancé, making Yue Nawaki's prospective brother-in-law. 14

After losing another duel to Yue despite using the Sword of the Thunder God and several ninjutsu, Nawaki seeks further instruction from Orochimaru. 15 16 Yue later uses Nawaki as a Balance of God challenge target; Yue's victory in a life-or-death duel against Nawaki's counterpart yields the Senju Bloodline and the Gift of Senju Hashirama. 20

Nawaki subsequently enrolls in the Ninja Academy alongside Yue. He supports Yue during the entrance examination, imitates his boastful introduction style in class, and later accompanies Yue while helping Uzumaki Kushina settle into Konoha. 28 31 47 48

Personality

Nawaki is hot-headed and fiercely competitive. He begins fights directly, refuses to concede even after being decisively beaten, and treats every loss as motivation to train harder. 12 13 16

He is also stubbornly proud, particularly when Yue calls him a “little brother” or exploits his status as Tsunade's sibling. Despite this, he develops a friendly rivalry with Yue and openly relies on Yue's strength when dealing with other academy students. 14 15 28
