Adrian was a capable warrior. In the frontline army, he was also a Captain, and a very capable one at that.

So, although he did not particularly like Shawn, he still made the right choice and had Shawn walk beside Olivia. That way, Shawn would be better protected. After all, a mage was vulnerable in the danger-ridden Dragonspine Mountains.

Compared with that faint trace of jealousy, hunting the dragon and staying alive were clearly far more important.

The Dragonspine Mountains were vast, soaring into the clouds and stretching over a thousand li. If a comparison had to be made, they were roughly equivalent to Earth's Qinling Mountains. Just as the Qinling Mountains divided northern and southern China, the Dragonspine Mountains separated the Middle-earth Human Empire from the Dark Realm to the north, forming a natural barrier between the two factions.

Ten Thousand Years Ago, a Legendary Black Dragon had occupied the Dragonspine Mountains. It had claimed the entire range, built a Dragon's Lair, and bred descendants, becoming the ruler of the mountains.

Dragons were lustful by nature. The Black Dragon had mated with all manner of creatures, giving rise to large numbers of Dragon Beasts.

Those Dragon Beasts roamed throughout the Dragonspine Mountains. They carried varying amounts of Black Dragon blood, which made them immensely powerful. Some of the strongest Dragon Beasts even possessed the strength of a greater professionist, nearly matching Servian, the only adult Black Dragon now living in the Dragonspine Mountains.

Later, during a great war between the human empire and the Dark Realm, the Black Dragonflight suffered a devastating calamity. The Legendary Black Dragon was hunted down by the Dark Realm's Faceless Ones General, and more than a dozen adult Black Dragons were slaughtered as well. Only one adult Black Dragon escaped: Cassarian.
