Background / History
Shawn is initially an underage half-elf orphan living at Saldean Farm in Westfall. His body belongs to the original withdrawn Shawn, but his soul carries memories from a previous life on 21st-century Earth. This transmigration gives him access to the Space Garrison, an independent wasteland-space whose ultimate mission is to become a “Garrison of God.” Shawn serves as its supreme commander. 1 7
Initially concerned with surviving Westfall’s murlocs, gnolls, Defias bandits, and other dangers, Shawn enters the Kobold Den through the Portal of Time and Space to acquire resources. He clears the dungeon by assassinating its Kobold Shaman Wizard, earns free attribute points, and gains access to a class-selection system. 1 4 5
After choosing the Mage class, Shawn travels to Stromgarde’s earliest arcane training period 2,800 years in the past. Through sustained practice, he learns to manipulate elemental forces, casts Fireball, and is formally recognized as the Arcane Saint. 6 20 21
Back in Westfall, Shawn studies engineering under Old Saldean, upgrades his Space Garrison, builds golem-production infrastructure, and develops ties with Goldshire and the Tower of Azora. His wider ambitions eventually shift toward exposing Onyxia’s manipulation of Stormwind and reconciling the Defias Brotherhood with Stormwind City. 8 33 34 35 46 50
Feathermoon Lineage
Shawn initially knows little about his surname beyond its elven significance and a vague recollection of Shandris Feathermoon. When he proposes approaching her as a relative, Jaina doubts his account of a lost notebook explaining his origins. The Space Garrison intervenes with the Return to Your Roots quest and supplies a Feathermoon Amulet as proof of membership in the family. The quest explicitly states that Feathermoon blood flows through him. 16 18 59
Shandris initially believes she is her family’s last survivor, but recognizes Shawn’s amulet as a powerful family heirloom bound to him. She accepts him as a younger relative descended from a central member of the family. His exact parentage remains unknown. Shandris assumes his father was the elven Feathermoon parent because the family follows paternal surnames; Shawn questions that assumption. 61
Shandris asks Shawn to call her “Auntie” and treats him with warmth and protectiveness. Her recognition gives him both a familial connection and a powerful ally, although the precise history of his ancestry remains unresolved. 61 62
Wider Adventures and Dual-Class Development
Shawn helps the effort surrounding Varian’s rescue and the reclamation of Dire Maul, then returns to ancient Arathor for Arcane’s First Battle. His disguised infiltration and poisoning of an Amani force earn him recognition as Arathor’s Chief Mage and a knight. Anasterian Sunstrider supports his invented history of studying in Quel’Thalas, publicly claims him as a personal disciple, and sends Sunwell Water and sunmote. 87 92 96 98 100 101
After the Deadmines negotiations and his participation in the campaign against Onyxia, Shawn develops Gold Coast Town and a seven-story Mage Tower. His resources, constructs, and settlement policies establish him as a local organizer and protector rather than merely an adventurer. 108 112 115 144 145 147
Although he repeatedly rejects proposals to abandon arcane magic for druidism, worgen venom eventually forces him to seek druidic training. The Space Garrison sends him ten thousand years into the past, where Cenarius teaches him to wield nature’s power and control Goldrinn’s wolf form. He returns with both classes intact and later becomes a keeper of the Scythe of Elune and a member of the Cenarion Circle. 126 147 156 157 158 160 221
Appearance
Shawn is a delicate-looking half-elf boy who appears younger than his actual age due to his mixed heritage. After receiving mage equipment in Stromgarde, he takes on the appearance of a young noble mage. 7 21
- Slightly pointed ears, marking his half-elven ancestry. 46
- Physically under fifteen during his early mage training. 18
- Initially frail, with low Strength and only average agility for his age. 5 31
- Wears the blue-glowing Ring of the Arcane Saint and a gold medal after his formal recognition. 21 34
- Has fair skin rather than the characteristic violet complexion of Night Elves. Shandris considers his appearance closer to human–High Elf ancestry, although this is her inference rather than confirmed parentage. 61
- The awakened Feathermoon Amulet merges between his eyebrows and can remain hidden within his body or be summoned at will. Shandris knows no family precedent for its location. 63
- Appears as a pure-blooded Night Elf during the historical journey to Cenarius’s forest. Later descriptions continue to identify him as a half-elf. 156 219
- Can assume controlled wolf and worgen forms, and later an adult Green Dragon form through his legendary staff. 174 219 220
Personality
Shawn is pragmatic and survival-oriented. When faced with stronger kobolds, he initially withdraws rather than gamble his life, but he readily exploits openings when conditions favor him. 3 4
He is resourceful, ambitious, and highly motivated by quests, equipment, knowledge, and the growth of his Space Garrison. He can be naïve in business dealings, as Argus profits heavily from Shawn’s inexperience, but he learns to value information, contacts, and personal strength. 20 25 33
Although he can deceive others or manipulate events for practical gain, Shawn also values promises and responsibility. He takes Vanessa VanCleef into his care after accepting the Space Garrison’s mission and commits himself to protecting Stormwind from Onyxia’s schemes. 12 46 47 50
His outward composure often conceals sarcastic or irritated thoughts. He refuses to be intimidated by Matthias Shaw’s intelligence briefing and counters with information about Shaw’s own history, but tolerates subsequent mockery when cooperation matters more than pride. To explain his knowledge of Stormwind’s crisis, he falsely presents himself as Medivh’s student. 51 52
Shawn regards knowledge, truth, and a peaceful, comfortable life as more meaningful than grand titles. His commitment to arcane study leads him to reject an Archdruid’s offer of apprenticeship and promises of longevity. After circumstances make druidism necessary, he argues that arcane and nature magic can complement one another rather than accepting an exclusive choice between them. 52 126 160
His planning becomes increasingly patient and politically sophisticated. He studies the Troll camp before poisoning its water containers, adapts his Mage Tower ambitions to practical constraints, and prioritizes the endangered Red Scepter Shard over an easier personal objective. He also recognizes his limitations, seeking help against Ysondre and avoiding unnecessary exposure to Legendary Dragons. 96 110 200 202 214
His ambition can conflict with his stated agreements. After accepting temporary custody of the Scythe of Elune on the condition that it be returned to Tyrande, he privately intends to retain it for Feathermoon. He later hopes to lead both the Cenarion Circle and the Kirin Tor and regards the redeemed Worgen as a potential army. 174 221
Despite his pragmatism, Shawn remains emotionally attached to his former life and increasingly to Azeroth. He cries after a nostalgic dream, appreciates Shandris’s respect for his privacy, and ultimately believes he would support the Bronze Dragonflight because he loves the world it protects. 62 198
Abilities & Skills
Arcane Magic
Shawn is a Mage with unusually high Spirit, attributed to the fusion of his transmigrated soul with his current body. His Spirit improves mana recovery and magical control. 5 18 31
- Casts Fireball, though its early casting time is approximately 20 seconds before equipment reduces it to under 10 seconds. With his later full equipment set, Fireball and Frostbolt can be cast in under one second. 21 23 95
- Masters Frostbolt and reaches Mage Level 2. 40
- Learns Arcane Missiles under Celina Morningdew’s initial guidance and later uses it against Blade after his horse is stolen. 24 38
- Can summon Water and Fire Elementals during his arcane training. 20
- Learns to shape existing flames into fireballs, improving his connection with Fire Elementals. 20
- Learns Arcane Explosion, whose equipment-enhanced damage can rival that of a Level 6 or Level 7 intermediate Mage even while Shawn remains a Novice Mage. 75
- Uses Arcane Blast as a cone-shaped attack against immobilized Forest Trolls. 95
- Uses Blink to evade Taerar’s attempted sleep spell. 168
- Learns the basics of Flamestrike, Blizzard, Slow Fall, Fire Blast, and Frostfire Bolt under Aegwynn. He memorizes their spell structures but still needs further study to understand and master them fully. 222
- Uses time spent inside instances to extend his training, turning one external week into approximately three months of magical study. 222
Druidism and Shapeshifting
An Archdruid in the Dragon Hunter Family instance identifies Shawn’s extraordinary druidic potential, and Broll later reaches a similar assessment. Shawn initially treats druidic teaching as another source of knowledge rather than a desired profession. His formal training begins under Cenarius after worgen venom threatens to transform him into a mindless Worgen. 125 126 147 156 157
- Senses nature’s life force and the spirits of living things through meditation and observation. Cenarius personally extends his consciousness through the forest to guide Shawn’s understanding. 157 158
- Learns Goldrinn’s wolf form after observing the Wolf God directly. Initial transformation nearly overwhelms him, but he subsequently learns to return to elf form under his own control. 158 160
- Retains his Mage class while becoming a Druid. 156 164
- Demonstrates controlled wolf and worgen forms without losing his identity or self-control. 174
- Recognizes that shapeshifting changes his physical and mental attributes and initially places considerable strain on his body. 160
- Is advised by Cenarius to explore treant and moonkin forms, representing tranquility and balance; these are recommendations rather than documented mastered forms. 160
- Develops from Druid Level 3 to Level 5 through the influence of four Green Dragon souls and his growing understanding of nature. 222
Green Dragon Soul Merging
The legendary Staff of the Dream Guardian binds four Green Dragon souls to Shawn. Eranikus resolves incompatibility and rejection, allowing the souls to enter and leave Shawn’s body individually or together without depriving him of control. The number he can merge with depends on his Druid rank. 219
| Druid Rank | Dragon Souls Usable Together | Transformation |
|---|---|---|
| Low Rank | 1 | Ordinary adult Green Dragon; sufficient to fight a Grand Professionist head-on. |
| Mid Rank | 2 | Exceptionally powerful adult Green Dragon, stronger than an ordinary adult of the flight. |
| High Druid | 3 | Adult Green Dragon approaching Legendary strength. |
| Archdruid | 4 | Legendary adult Green Dragon with power comparable to Eranikus. |
The higher-rank transformations are future capabilities, not ranks Shawn has already attained. By Chapter 222, he remains a Level 5 Low-Rank Druid and can access the one-soul transformation. 219 220 222
Feathermoon Amulet Magic
Shandris awakens Shawn’s amulet through Moonlight Magic and infuses it with additional moonlight power. It enhances arcane and moonlight spellcasting, supplies mana, and grants spells suited to its bearer. 63 64
- Moonlight Protection — Shields Shawn from danger, including Troll weapons and an arrow fired while he is disguised as a Troll. 63 95 96
- Evocation — Restores mana when it is depleted. 63
- Moon Goddess’s Arrow — A powerful ranged attack capable of striking a target within sight. Shawn uses it against a Troll priest and to interrupt Taerar’s spellcasting with a brief stun. 63 98 168
- Its embedded spells have no fixed duration or use-count limit, but consume the amulet’s finite arcane and moonlight reserves. The amulet continuously replenishes that energy. 64
- Its moonlight power resonates with the Scythe of Elune, helping Shawn wield that artifact without backlash. 174 191 214
Eye of Insight
A unique active skill awarded for completing Beginning of Arcane. It uses Azeroth’s ley lines and the Space Garrison as a hub to identify creatures, items, and professions. The skill itself cannot be upgraded, although its detection range follows Shawn’s level. 22
- Detects targets up to the commander’s current level plus five. 22
- At Mage Level 1, can inspect creatures up to Level 6 and green-quality equipment. 22
- Reveals attributes, classes, skills, and equipment, including Vanessa VanCleef’s identity and Old Saldean’s hidden professions. 22 45
- Cannot identify professional skills above Expert rank at its initial documented level. 22
- At Mage Level 6, its creature inspection limit reaches Level 11, but Gryan remains beyond its range. 108
- Cannot reveal the full abilities of Matthias Shaw or Edwin VanCleef when Shawn encounters them; VanCleef’s engineering, construction, and assassin abilities all exceed its applicable limits. 51 112
Engineering
Shawn has a science-and-engineering background from his previous life and rapidly learns mechanical work under Old Saldean. 8 10
- Gains Novice Engineering after mastering Harvest Golem repair in a single day. 8
- Can repair or build Harvest Golems if provided with a Golem Heart and sufficient materials. 8
- Repairs Harvest Golems and assists with repairing a Shredder. 9 10
- Constructs a Golem Factory and researches the level 7 Harvest Watcher. 34 40
- Produces Reinforced Multi-function Shredders and Quarry Machines for construction work. 47
- Collects additional Golem Hearts with the aim of replacing Westfall’s Harvest Golems with stronger Harvest Watchers. 110
- Uses mined ore to produce golems and Gargoyles for the defense of farms, towns, the Mage Tower, and Westfall’s coastline. 147
- Receives construction materials from Stormwind to build a construct force for the Ahn’Qiraj campaign. Shawn is its designated commander because others cannot command his constructs. 193
Space Garrison Command
Shawn mentally accesses and commands the Space Garrison, a separate space that expands through gathered resources and constructed buildings. 1
- Converts materials such as mine carts into Garrison Resources. 11 33
- Upgrades the Space Garrison to Level 1. 33
- Can initially recruit up to 25 followers; Level 1 restricts recruits to professional Level 5 or below. 34
- Builds facilities including a Golem Factory, Fishing Shack, Herb Garden, Lunarfall Excavation, and Pet Menagerie. 34 47
- Uses the Portal of Time and Space to enter dungeon-like independent spaces and historical periods. 2 6
- Signs binding follower contracts that grant partial garrison access while preventing followers from betraying him or disclosing its secrets, even through their souls. 34 137
- His Mage advancement permits the Level 2 garrison upgrade, increasing available small-building slots from three to six, medium slots from two to four, and large slots from one to two. The Town Hall and Pet Menagerie later reach Level 2. 102 115
- Acquiring the Dreadnought fulfills a ship-acquisition quest needed to activate the Ship Interface and begin shipyard construction. 144
- Controls the developing Elf War Base in Dawn Forest remotely because it forms part of the Space Garrison. 192
- Can project the Endless Void Holy Tower into the real world, subject to the size of the tower constructed within the garrison. 100 147
Soul Protection and Temporal Anomaly
When a greater demon attempts to possess Shawn, it encounters the Space Garrison instead of successfully seizing his soul. A hidden presence destroys the demon’s soul and disperses it as energy. Shawn learns that the garrison automatically protects his soul against lethal threats and prevents memory theft, but does not block every lesser form of mental influence. 188
Nozdormu discovers that Shawn is blurred or absent in other timelines. He and Shawn theorize that possibilities generated by Shawn’s choices form alternate timelines that are erased as soon as he makes a choice, leaving him in a single surviving stream of time. This remains an explanation they develop rather than a fully understood mechanism. Nozdormu rules out the Infinite Dragonflight and the Old Gods as its source. 198
The power concealing Shawn’s temporal traces is strong enough to obstruct the Bronze Dragonflight’s investigation. Returning from an instance or historical journey can take only an instant in the present, although exceptionally sensitive observers such as Broll may notice spatial or bodily changes. 101 108 161
Kobold War Horn
A horn effective on Westfall kobolds, allowing Shawn to rally and direct them despite not understanding their language. 10 11
- Commands kobolds to attack murlocs on the Gold Coast. 11
- Causes kobolds in the Murloc Shoal’s mine to recognize him as their leader. 28
- Its effectiveness is greatly reduced on kobolds outside Westfall. 28
Summoned Allies and Companions
| Ally / Summon | Role and Development |
|---|---|
| Shalzaru’s soul | The spirit of the Hatecrest Naga King; supports Shawn with Frost Nova, stealth, and combat against the Great Lynx. Servian’s dark magic later damages his soul and temporarily prevents further summoning. 95 96 98 137 |
| Woodpaw Arcanist | A reusable card summon with Challenge Rating 11, providing Chain Lightning and paralysis. Despite unlimited normal reuse, it is permanently lost after its death in the Dragon Hunter Family adventure. 72 95 137 |
| Woodpaw ancestral spirits | Up to five spirits summoned through the Woodpaw Ancestral Totem to block enemies. The totem is later destroyed. 133 137 |
| Crystal Spider / Crystal Dragon Spider | Uses webs and venom, aids in poisoning the Troll camp and fighting Servian, and later consumes Onyxia’s remains. It reaches Level 11 and advances from blue rare to purple epic quality. 95 96 115 133 145 |
| Lynx Princess | Captured following the Great Lynx quest; her seal gradually weakens as Shawn grows stronger. She reaches Level 6 and later Level 8, then remains in Moonglade to recover under moonlight and nature’s energy. 98 101 115 145 221 |
| Constructs | Harvest Watchers, iron golems, Gargoyles, and Alloy Gargoyles provide defense, transport, construction support, and military strength. 110 145 147 165 193 |
| Ancalagon | Onyxia reborn as a black dragonling under Shawn’s control, with her former identity concealed from the public. 145 |

Relationships
- Old Saldean — Adoptive guardian, engineering mentor, caravan leader, and trusted supporter. Shawn learns Harvest Golem repair from him and is treated like family. Later appointed deputy mayor of Gold Coast Town and entrusted with its administration. 7 8 9 10 40 147 192
- Meryl Winterstorm — Fellow early human mage and rival in arcane training; the two train together and celebrate Shawn’s Fireball achievement. Their reunion in ancient Arathor demonstrates genuine friendship, although Meryl’s rapid advancement makes Shawn competitive. The present-world Meryl initially belongs to a different timeline and does not share those meetings; Shawn later works with the ancient undead Mage, who helps enchant his staff. 20 21 92 150 174
- Celina Morningdew — Elven mage involved in Shawn’s arcane training and recognition as Arcane Saint. Teaches Arcane Missiles, supports his Amani infiltration plan, brews its potions and poison, and reports his achievements to Thoradin. 20 21 24 92 100
- Gryan Stoutmantle / Old Grian — Westfall militia leader whom Shawn hopes to cultivate as an important connection; their relationship begins with Gryan questioning Shawn over stolen ore carts. They become practical allies, though Shawn distrusts Gryan’s self-interest and resents his prioritization of Sentinel Hill over Shawn’s tower. Gryan joins the Deadmines delegation and later supplies militia labor for Gold Coast’s construction. 12 13 50 108 109 145
- Rick — Former caravan scout and initially unreliable associate. After abandoning Shawn during Princess’s attack, Rick later pledges to follow him and leaves Vanessa in his care. His experience as VanCleef’s assistant and a Grandmaster architect helps the Deadmines negotiations and Gold Coast’s planning. He later takes over the Stormwind Mason Guild and regularly advises the town’s builders. 39 46 108 145 192
- Vanessa VanCleef — Young daughter of Edwin VanCleef entrusted to Shawn. He accepts a mission to raise her, frees her restraints, and becomes her caretaker. She grows comfortable with him, later returns to her father during negotiations, and subsequently becomes Shawn’s follower. She studies under Valeera and is sent away with Anduin when the Green Dragon mission becomes too dangerous. 45 46 47 50 115 146 148 162 165
- Princess — Shawn’s first mount, a powerful domesticated sow tamed with Ghost Reins. Shawn commissions battle armor for her and takes responsibility for her care. Later leaves her at Saldean Farm to protect Old Saldean and his wife, with whom she has bonded. 39 40 110
- Theocritus — Leader of the Tower of Azora, whom Shawn seeks out to exchange magical knowledge and resources. His mages later assist in completing Shawn’s seven-story Mage Tower. 34 35 36 145
- Matthias Shaw — SI:7 leader and initially a verbal rival. Shawn counters his attempt at intimidation with knowledge of his biography. They later cooperate in exposing Onyxia and negotiating with VanCleef; Varian’s authorization allows Shawn to requisition Shaw’s assistance. 51 52 103 108 110 112
- Medivh — Shawn claims Medivh trained him and supplied his information about Stormwind as a cover story. This claim is not evidence of an actual teacher–student relationship. 52
- Shandris Feathermoon — Recognizes Shawn as a younger Feathermoon relative, asks him to call her “Auntie,” and awakens his amulet. She becomes a protective familial ally and later advocates for his stewardship of the Scythe of Elune. 61 62 63 214
- Jaina Proudmoore — Initially doubts Shawn’s account of his ancestry but takes him to Shandris. Their relationship develops into practical cooperation involving Varian, the Scepter shards, and the Alliance–Horde coalition. She recognizes the broader strategic reasoning behind his urgency over Blackrock Mountain. 59 61 103 200 221 222
- Aegwynn — Experienced magical adviser and eventual arcane mentor. Supports discussions about using Dire Maul’s converted energy and later trains Shawn intensively, determined that his arcane growth should keep pace with his druidic development. 87 103 221 222
- Varian Wrynn — Royal ally, patron, and source of politically demanding missions. Shawn helps expose Onyxia’s manipulation, negotiates with VanCleef on Varian’s behalf, receives the Dreadnought and Goldrinn’s blessing, and serves as envoy to Darkshire. 103 108 144 148
- Edwin VanCleef — Negotiation target rather than a straightforward enemy. Shawn sees VanCleef’s love for Vanessa as a path to reconciliation and identifies Onyxia as their common enemy. VanCleef agrees to oppose Onyxia but rejects surrendering the Deadmines. 112 115
- Olivia — Companion from the Dragon Hunter Family instance and Shawn’s first contracted follower. Her awakened black dragon blood gives her great potential; she accompanies him to Azeroth and serves as his bodyguard. 130 136 137 165
- Cenarius — Shawn’s personal druidic teacher in a timeline ten thousand years in the past. Guides his nature awareness, introduces him to Goldrinn, helps him control wolf form, and gives him the Staff of Darnassus. 157 158 160
- Malfurion, Illidan, and Tyrande — Meets their younger selves while studying under Cenarius. Malfurion welcomes him into the group, Illidan helps wake him, and Shawn admires Malfurion’s exceptional talent. Present-day Tyrande later approves his custody of the Scythe and contributes to his legendary staff. 156 157 158 214 219
- Broll Bearmantle — Persistent advocate of Shawn’s druidic talent, adviser, combat ally, and supporter within the Cenarion Circle. Helps enchant his staff, entrusts him with the Scythe, and recommends his admission to the Circle. 147 165 174 214 221
- Leral Firefang — Archdruid who signs a follower contract in exchange for returning from the Emerald Dream to Azeroth. Shawn releases him with the Scythe and entrusts him with duties around Dawn Forest and the Elf War Base. 179 191 192
- Chromie — Initially sent to investigate and test Shawn’s morality and temporal anomaly. Eventually remains with him as an observer and powerful ally, transports him between locations, and contributes time magic to his legendary staff. 101 165 199 202 219
- Nozdormu — Investigates Shawn’s unusual relationship with time, rules out several suspected causes, and regards him as a potential ally against the Infinite Dragonflight. Shawn makes no explicit promise but recognizes that his attachment to Azeroth aligns him with the Bronze Dragons. 198
- Remulos — Supports Shawn’s use of the Scythe, helps create his legendary staff, admits him to the Cenarion Circle, and asks him to address the worgen curse in Gilneas. 214 219 221
- Eranikus — Grateful to Shawn for his purification, promises to join the Silithus battle and personally stabilizes the dragon-soul enchantment in Shawn’s legendary staff. 219

- Althea and Duke Ello Ebonlocke — Darkshire leaders with whom Shawn works on the town’s threats, confidential discussions, and weapons delivery. He later instructs Leral to monitor the town and discreetly investigate Althea. 148 161 162 165 192
- Onyxia / Ancalagon — Initially the enemy behind Shawn’s Stormwind reconciliation plan. After her death, he captures her soul and enables her rebirth in a black dragon egg as Ancalagon, concealing her identity and hoping for a different future for her. 46 145
Story Role / Major Arcs
Space Garrison and Kobold Den
Shawn discovers the Space Garrison and its ultimate mission, then enters the Kobold Den to gather resources. He kills the Kobold Shaman Wizard, clears the dungeon with a C rating, and receives attribute points that unlock his class-selection quest. 1 2 3 4 5
Arcane Saint Training
Choosing Mage as his primary class, Shawn travels to ancient Stromgarde for initial arcane training. He competes with Meryl Winterstorm, develops Fireball through persistent practice, becomes the first human formal mage, and receives the Arcane Saint title and associated equipment. 6 20 21 22
Before leaving, he gathers the room’s magical books, emphasizing knowledge as a resource alongside equipment and attribute rewards. Completing Beginning of Arcane gives him Eye of Insight. 22
Westfall Engineering and Garrison Growth
Shawn trains as an engineer under Old Saldean, repairs golems and Shredders, uses kobolds to acquire mining resources, clears the Murloc Shoal, and upgrades the Space Garrison to Level 1. He begins producing golems and building specialized garrison facilities. 8 9 10 11 28 31 33 34 35 47
His later Mage advancement enables the Level 2 garrison upgrade. Continued construction expands the Town Hall and Pet Menagerie, while obtaining the Dreadnought opens the way to naval infrastructure. 102 115 144
Princess and Mage Advancement
After being killed by the powerful sow Princess, Shawn returns alive and tames her with Ghost Reins. He later commissions armor for her, researches the Harvest Watcher, and advances to Mage Level 2 through Frostbolt practice. 39 40
Princess later remains at Saldean Farm as a protector of his adoptive family rather than accompanying the Deadmines expedition. 110
Vanessa and the Onyxia Plan
Rick brings the kidnapped Vanessa VanCleef to Shawn. Shawn learns more about Rick’s past with the Mason Guild and reveals Onyxia’s role in Stormwind and Westfall’s crises. He accepts responsibility for Vanessa and pursues a plan to reconcile Edwin VanCleef with Stormwind in order to oppose Onyxia. 45 46 47 48 49 50
In Stormwind, Shawn meets Matthias Shaw, refuses to be intimidated by SI:7’s intelligence, and uses a fabricated connection to Medivh to explain his knowledge. He later helps the group expose Onyxia to both halves of Varian. Contrary to the expectation that they will reunite, the Varians choose to remain separate, dividing governance and military leadership between them. 51 52 103
Varian sends Shawn to negotiate with VanCleef, offering conditional rights to establish a Gold Coast town. Shawn assembles Rick, Shaw, Vanessa, and Gryan, uses Doppelganger Potions to infiltrate the Deadmines, and argues aboard the Dreadnought that Onyxia—not either side alone—is responsible for their tragedy. The mission secures VanCleef’s willingness to oppose Onyxia, but not his acceptance of Stormwind’s decree or surrender of the Deadmines. 108 110 112 115
Feathermoon Recognition and Dire Maul
The Return to Your Roots quest supplies Shawn with the amulet that proves his Feathermoon membership. Shandris recognizes him as kin, accepts the role of his aunt, and awakens the relic’s epic powers. Her obligations against the Hatecrest Naga shape her agreement to help Jaina rescue Varian from Dire Maul. 59 61 62 63 64
After Dire Maul’s West Wing is secured, Shawn proposes preserving and repairing its Void Energy Spires so their converted energy can be used by Aegwynn. He anticipates the Shen’dralar’s return to night-elf society and studies the city’s library, advancing to Mage Level 4. He eventually leaves the security of Shandris’s protection to pursue Aegwynn’s instruction and the fight against Onyxia. 87 88 103
Arcane’s First Battle and the Amani War
Returning to ancient Arathor, Shawn proposes using Doppelganger Potions to infiltrate the Amani army. Celina brews the scarce potions and a potent poison, while Meryl and two experienced elven Mages join the operation. 92
Shawn survives a Hexer’s attack, gains the Amani Hexstaff, and overwhelms hostile Forest Trolls with equipment, summons, and crowd-control magic. He then studies the camp’s water system and poisons its containers through Shalzaru and the Crystal Spider rather than wasting poison in the flowing river. 93 95 96
He finishes a high-ranking Troll priest with Moon Goddess’s Arrow, completes Troll Thousand-Kill and Arcane’s First Battle, and captures the priest’s false Loa. His rewards include the Book of the Arcane Saint, a Mage Tower blueprint, and the Endless Void Holy Tower. Thoradin grants him the titles of Chief Mage and knight, while Anasterian supplies valuable gifts and reinforces his cover story. 98 100 101
Dragon Hunter Family and the First Follower
During the voyage to attack Onyxia, Shawn enters the Dragon Hunter Family instance to improve his strength and equipment. He joins Olivia, Adrian, Tommy, and Eileen in the effort to kill the adult Black Dragon Servian. 115 116 117 118 125
The forest’s Archdruid offers Shawn a druidic apprenticeship, which he refuses. Nevertheless, Shawn accepts the Ancient Tree Seed, the Mark of Nature, and a map to the dragon’s lair. During the confrontation, he supplies spider venom and lends Quel’Sala to Olivia, then uses ancestral spirits and other companions to hold off Dragonmen while gathering treasure. 125 126 128 130 133
The adventure costs him the Woodpaw Arcanist, the Ancestral Totem, and an Elite Gargoyle, while Shalzaru suffers serious soul damage. Olivia becomes his first contracted follower and accompanies him to Azeroth. 136 137
Onyxia’s Defeat and Gold Coast Development
After Onyxia’s death, Shawn requests the Dreadnought as his remaining royal reward and receives Goldrinn’s blessing. He captures her soul with the Dragon Soul Orb and later uses a black dragon egg to bring her back as the dragonling Ancalagon. Her former identity remains secret. 144 145
Shawn completes the seven-story Mage Tower with court mages and Theocritus’s mages, stationing fifty iron golems, fifty Gargoyles, and eight rebuilt Alloy Gargoyles in its defenses. Rick’s plans, Mason Guild artisans, hired workers, and Gryan’s militia accelerate the construction of Gold Coast Town. Housing support and shared mine proceeds attract settlers and neighboring farms. 145
He appoints Old Saldean deputy mayor, deploys mine-funded constructs to protect Westfall, and completes the spire and first three floors of the Endless Void Holy Tower. Its projection draws energy from the void, but further expansion stalls for lack of void crystals. The Dreadnought remains without a qualified commander. 147
Darkshire, Cenarius, and the Worgen
As preparations begin for Ahn’Qiraj, Varian appoints Shawn envoy to Darkshire and sends Anduin with him. Shawn, Olivia, Vanessa, and Valeera become involved in the town’s undead, worgen, and Scythe-related dangers. 148 150 151
Worgen venom forces Shawn into a new advancement journey ten thousand years in the past. Cenarius accepts him as a student, teaches him to commune with nature, and guides his observation of Goldrinn. Shawn learns wolf transformation and self-control, receives the Staff of Darnassus, and returns to the present with his venom gone. 156 157 158 160 161
Shawn helps prepare the confrontation with Taerar and subsequently gains an epic soulbound staff. Broll gives him temporary custody of the Scythe of Elune to assist the Worgen. Shawn secures Leral Firefang as a follower, releases him from the Emerald Dream, and develops the Elf War Base in Dawn Forest. 165 168 174 179 180 191 192
During the confrontation with a greater demon possessing Ariaden, the Endless Void Holy Tower forces it out. Its attempt to possess Shawn instead triggers the garrison’s hidden soul defense. A masked thief escapes with Apocalypse, while Shawn retrieves Ulthalesh and gives it to Merry. 188
Bronze Dragonflight and the Scepter of the Shifting Sands
Nozdormu’s investigation identifies Shawn as a temporal exception whose other possible timelines appear to be erased when he chooses. Rather than treating him as an enemy, the Time-Lord regards him as a potential ally and sends him with Chromie to Anachronos. Chromie continues accompanying him as an observer. 198 199
Shawn receives the quest to restore the Scepter of the Shifting Sands and coordinates recovery of its scattered shards. He emphasizes that the Red Shard in Blackwing Lair is in immediate danger, prompting Jaina and Aegwynn to organize support from the Horde, Stormwind, and Ironforge. 199 200
He negotiates with Duke Hydraxis, secures the Blue Shard from Megalodon, and promises assistance against Molten Core. His subsequent investigation of Emerald Dream portals leads him to seek help against Ysondre rather than endangering the corrupted Druid souls she can summon. 202
Green Dragon Purification and Cenarion Circle Membership
Shawn plays a crucial role in purifying Green Dragons and gathering the Nightmare Shards needed to summon Eranikus. Remulos, Shandris, and Broll support his continued custody of the Scythe; Tyrande agrees that he should retain it after Eranikus is purified. 214
Following the purification, Eranikus pledges help at Silithus and joins Remulos, Tyrande, Broll, and Chromie in elevating Shawn’s Soulbinding Staff into a legendary weapon. Its four Green Dragon souls grant him a controlled dragon transformation whose potential increases with his Druid rank. 219 220
Remulos formally entrusts him with the Scythe of Elune, asks him to help investigate Gilneas’s worgen curse, and admits him to the Cenarion Circle at Broll’s suggestion. Shawn leaves the Lynx Princess in Moonglade to recover and returns to Theramore to prepare for the coalition campaign. 221
Blackrock Mountain Preparations
While the coalition assembles, Shawn trains under Aegwynn and uses instances to extend his study time. His Mage level reaches 9, while the dragon souls have raised his Druid level to 5. He learns the foundations of five additional spells but remains aware that memorization is not complete mastery. 222
Shawn then teleports with Jaina, Aegwynn, Merry Winterwind, Med’an, and the Mage Corps to Blackrock Mountain. They join the assembled forces, including Varian’s 3,000 Stormwind soldiers, Magni’s 1,000 Ironforge riflemen, and Falstad’s 500 Wildhammer gryphon riders, for the campaign connected to recovering the Red Scepter Shard. 221 222
