Kylanna asked about at least a dozen herbs, from low-grade to high-grade, common to rare. Shawn not only answered every question, but even supplied information Kylanna herself did not know.
For example, Kylanna knew that purple lotus grew in Felwood and Tanaris, but having never visited the Eastern Kingdoms, she naturally had no idea it also grew in the Hinterlands. Shawn knew all of this.
None of that knowledge appeared in Kylanna's books, so she immediately guessed the "truth."
"Shawn, did you study herbalism back in Westfall?" Kaelanna asked.
Shawn hurriedly nodded. "Yes, yes. I learned from Uncle Tom before. He's a good man, a really good herbalist. He taught me all sorts of things about herbalism."
The fellow could spin lies without a moment's preparation. They did no harm anyway; to both Shawn and Kylanna, they were "white lies."

Only then did Kylanna breathe a sigh of relief. This young half-elf has an excellent memory! Even if he studied herbalism before, there must have been plenty here he'd never encountered. Surely that herbalist hadn't visited Kalimdor and learned that purple lotus could be gathered in Felwood and Tanaris?
Yet she had no idea that Shawn had never taken pride in his memory. Compared with those freaks on The Brain, what did his lousy memory amount to...
Shawn had always been a very humble person.
Well, at least that was what he thought.
Kaelanna said, "Shawn, since you already have a foundation in herbalism and have now finished all the herb books here, I can formally begin teaching you alchemy. First, let me explain the vessels and tools alchemy requires..."
Time slipped by, and Shawn became utterly absorbed in the vast, intricate body of alchemical knowledge.
Before he knew it,
