Zhang Chulan spent his life following his late grandfather Zhang Xilin's instructions to hide among ordinary people. His status as an Outsider was known only to Zhang Xilin and Zhang Chulan's missing father, making Wu An's knowledge of the secret profoundly unsettling to him 2.

At a graveyard following the theft of Zhang Xilin's corpse, Feng Baobao attempts to bury Zhang Chulan alive. Wu An intervenes by presenting himself as Zhang Chulan's friend and persuades Feng Baobao to let him go 2. When zombies emerge from the graveyard, Wu An calls on Zhang Chulan to stop suppressing his true nature. Watching Wu An destroy the horde prompts Zhang to reconsider the life he has led and embrace his identity as an Outsider 2 3.

Personality

Zhang Chulan initially lives cautiously and inconspicuously, having internalized his grandfather's demand that he conceal his powers. Wu An's intervention forces him to confront the fact that this self-imposed ordinary life has become a mental barrier 2 3.

He is laid-back and roguish, but notably loyal. He responds to Wu An's repeated help with deep gratitude, accepts him as a true friend, and openly supports Wu An's refusal to join Quanxing 42. Although he wants to handle threats himself, he trusts Wu An's judgment when told that an opponent is beyond his current ability 43.

• Feng Baobao — First encountered while she was attempting to bury him alive. She later lets him leave with Wu An, and subsequently observes the confrontation involving Zhang Lingyu 2 45.

Graveyard Incident

Zhang Chulan is abducted by Feng Baobao at the graveyard where zombies are about to rise. Wu An's arrival both frees him from immediate danger and pushes him to stop denying his Outsider heritage 2 3.

Quanxing Kidnapping

Liu Yanyan's zombie minions capture and transport Zhang Chulan to an abandoned factory. Wu An arrives to rescue him, defeats the corpse-driving formation, and protects Zhang Chulan when Lv Liang and Xia He appear 38 39 40.

Celestial Master Mansion Confrontation

Following the Quanxing incident, Zhang Chulan is surrounded by Celestial Master Mansion disciples led by Zhang Lingyu. He initially volunteers to fight, but steps aside at Wu An's request; afterward, Zhang Lingyu extends an invitation to the Luo Tian Dajiao 43 45.
