Background / History
Early life and trauma
Wanda and her brother Pietro were captured by human traffickers and subjected to experimentation. Their latent abilities were awakened through Hydra's experiments, though Wanda's memories and family history may have been altered. 120 169
Before joining Shen Fei, she was haunted by the Nigeria incident, where her use of Chaos Magic to detonate a bomb in the sky contributed to a building explosion. Public condemnation and accusations of murder left her isolated at home and convinced that the Avengers' division was her fault. 91 94 95
Civil War and Osborn Tower
Steve Rogers persuaded Wanda to accompany him to Osborn Company while seeking Scott Lang's release. During their visit, footage of the Vienna explosion triggered Wanda's PTSD; she began losing control until Shen Fei intervened. 93 95
Wanda later discovered that Nick Fury was monitoring her. Feeling distrusted and treated as a weapon to be controlled, she refused to assist Rogers and began turning to Shen Fei instead. 97
She sought Shen Fei's help to control her abilities and moved into Osborn Tower for training. His meditation method enabled her to direct Chaos Magic deliberately rather than relying on uncontrolled blasts. 120 128 131
During the Avengers' internal conflict, Wanda fought Vision and Iron Man, wielding Seratok's Whip to incapacitate Vision and halt the wider battle. 131 132
Identity and magical training
Charles Xavier and Erik's inquiries revealed that Erik is Wanda's biological father. The revelation destabilized Wanda and unleashed a reality-warping surge of Chaos Magic, but she ultimately mastered the outburst through meditation. 169 170
Wanda rejected Erik despite their blood relationship, stating that she had no father. Her focus remained on resurrecting Pietro and deepening her magical training under Shen Fei. 171
Shen Fei brought her to the Ancient One, who explained that restoring Pietro would require locating his soul rather than rewriting past reality. Wanda was subsequently allowed to study Black Magic and other magical disciplines. 172
Later conflicts and Pietro's resurrection
By the battle against Kaecilius, Wanda had adopted the title Scarlet Witch and was powerful enough to eliminate Kaecilius's subordinates alone. 212
She later sided with Shen Fei over the Avengers when his plans brought Osborn into conflict with Wakanda. 228
In the war against Dormammu, Wanda used the Darkhold and Chthon's Chaos Magic to strike and weaken Dormammu alongside Shen Fei, Odin, and the Ancient One. 281
Wanda traveled to Helheim to find Pietro's soul, rescued him from Hela's mages, and performed a resurrection using Soul Magic, the Darkhold, and a body created from Pietro's genes. When that body rapidly decayed, she transferred his soul into a newly printed Vibranium body. 295 296 297
Appearance
Wanda is depicted in scarlet clothing when acting as the Scarlet Witch. Her magic manifests as scarlet light, flames, arrays, whips, and energy constructs. 95 182 212
- Scarlet glow in her eyes and across her body when emotionally destabilized or channeling Chaos Magic. 94 95
- Uses scarlet magic arrays to form portals. 182
- Channels her signature whip through scarlet energy. 131 296
Personality
Wanda is deeply affected by guilt over collateral damage and by public fear of her powers. Explosions and flames can trigger PTSD flashbacks, during which she becomes unable to hear reassurance and risks losing control. 95
Her central motivation is Pietro. The prospect of restoring him brightens her mood, drives her pursuit of magic, and gives her the resolve to confront Helheim and Hela's mages. 169 170 295 296
She is also assertive when she feels excluded or mistrusted. She confronts Shen Fei for leaving her out of Osborn's Wakanda plan, yet ultimately chooses to remain loyal to him rather than the Avengers. 228
Abilities & Skills
Chaos Magic
Wanda channels Chaos Magic sourced from Chthon. It is described as a fundamentally uncontrollable power that can manifest as either black or white magic, with its outcome shaped by the caster's mental strength and control. 120
- Her innate mutant ability is identified as reality-altering probability. 120
- Can distort reality during emotional overload. 170
- Can manipulate energy into attacks, restraints, defensive constructs, and magical arrays. 131 182 320
- Her available magic power is effectively limitless if she has sufficient Spirit Energy; her practical limit is how much she can control. 245 295
- Emotional agitation, trauma, and identity-related shocks can cause dangerous loss of control. 95 170
Seratok's Whip
Wanda's preferred offensive spell is a scarlet magical whip, first formed through Shen Fei's meditation method. 131 132
- Overpowered Iron Man and struck Vision hard enough to end the Civil War confrontation. 131 132
- Can multiply into numerous whips and overwhelm Vision's Mind Stone energy. 245
- Swept away Helheim mages and their death-energy constructs. 296
- Struck and stripped dark matter from Dormammu. 281
Portal and dimensional magic
Wanda can create portals through scarlet magic arrays and uses them for combat movement and battlefield control. 182 212 319
- Opened portals to decapitate Kaecilius's subordinates. 212
- Redirected Juggernaut and Rhino into each other. 319
- Used portals repeatedly to obstruct Zombie Swordsman's advance. 320
Darkhold and Black Magic
The Ancient One permits Wanda to learn a Black Magic version of formal magic due to her connection to Chthon. 172
- Uses the Darkhold to access extensive methods of Dark Magic. 281
- Her magic is difficult for other sorcerers to classify, drawing on techniques resembling several magical traditions. 213
- Used the Darkhold to stabilize the resurrection of Pietro's soul within a prepared body. 296
Soul Magic and resurrection
Wanda learned Soul Magic to locate and restore Pietro. 295
- Located Pietro's soul in Helheim through their twin connection. 295
- Reunited Pietro's soul with a genetically created body. 296
- Used reality alteration to make the created body conform more closely to Pietro's former body. 296
- Repeated the soul transfer into Pietro's Vibranium body after the initial body decayed. 297
- Resurrection of long-dead people requires far greater magical power and mastery than Wanda initially possessed. 170
Spirit Energy Magic
Wanda can use Spirit Energy Magic after being taught its gestures and incantations by Shen Fei. 308
- Created a Spirit Energy Cone immediately upon instruction. 308
- Appears able to access Spirit Energy without Shen Fei's authorization, reflecting her unusual compatibility with multiple magical systems. 308

- Shen Fei — Mentor, ally, and eventual romantic partner. He trains Wanda to control Chaos Magic, helps her pursue Pietro's resurrection, and becomes the person she trusts most. 120 132 169 228
