Connors was an Osborn researcher who separated his work from Richard Parker's extraordinary-spider research to focus on restoring his severed arm through the Lizard Serum. His former employer, Norman Osborn, funded the work; however, Connors was later fired and left struggling financially. 33 34 36

The serum restored his missing arm but caused uncontrollable transformations into a Lizard Man. While his reptilian persona urged him to turn humanity into a reptile kingdom, Connors resisted it, insisting that he was human and fearing that he had become an even greater “freak” than before. 33

Shen Fei found Connors during an early transformation and offered a cure, employment, and control of Osborn research resources in exchange for his cooperation. Connors accepted, surrendered the Lizard Serum technology, and began working under Shen Fei. 33 34
