Chapter 48: The End

"Sarutobi, what is the meaning of this?"

"Old man, are you alright?"

Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu, the two advisors, along with Orochimaru, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Anbu Commander Hatake Sakumo, and the heads of the various clans, all rushed to the scene, staring up at the towering Susanoo.

"I am fine. This is the Mangekyo Sharingan ocular jutsu known as Susanoo, a divine technique said to be fatal to anyone who lays eyes upon it. Order all ninja below the rank of Jonin to retreat; they will be of no use here."

Sarutobi Hiruzen commanded the group.

"Sharingan?" Everyone shifted their gaze toward Uchiha Tei, their eyes filled with inquiry and even a hint of suspicion.

Uchiha Tei's face darkened before he replied, "I have never seen this ninja before. There is no such person in our Uchiha Clan."

Sarutobi Hiruzen gave Uchiha Tei a deep, searching look; he was deeply suspicious of him as well.

"Where is Danzō?" Scanning the crowd and finding Danzō missing, Sarutobi Hiruzen asked, his heart skipping a beat. Could he truly have been sent by Danzō?

"I am here." Shimura Danzō stepped forward. He caught sight of Uchiha Ryo shrouded within the yellow Susanoo, a flash of astonishment crossing his eyes before it vanished—a detail no one else noticed.

Sarutobi Hiruzen nodded and said, "Let's take him down first! In the meantime, evacuate the civilians immediately. They must not be harmed."

"BOOM!" A massive katana swung down, carving a deep trench into the earth and obliterating several houses.

Sarutobi Hiruzen wiped away a cold sweat; he had been so busy issuing orders that he had nearly been cleaved in two.

"Stop talking, Teacher Sarutobi, and attack! We must hold him back first! Hidden Shadow Snake Hands!" Countless snakes lunged toward the Susanoo, biting and tearing.

"Heh, there are truly few in Konoha right now who can break through Susanoo. This is going to be a headache for them!" Hyuga Shin chuckled from his hiding spot in the shadows.

It was the truth; breaking a mature Susanoo through brute force was incredibly difficult. Unless Sarutobi Hiruzen went all out, they would have to rely on attrition.

Konoha's current strength was not particularly high. The Sannin had yet to reach their prime, leaving the village to rely on Sarutobi Hiruzen, Danzō, and Hatake Sakumo—the only three at the Kage level.

The other clan heads were merely quasi-Kage or elite Jonin, and they were completely incapable of dealing with Susanoo.

"Looking at it this way, Konoha really is a bit weak," Hyuga Shin remarked.

The Susanoo charged into the crowd, slaughtering everyone in its path. In a mere instant, four Jonin were dead, and many more were wounded.

However, Uchiha Ryo was not having an easy time either. As the saying goes, many ants can kill an elephant, and Uchiha Ryo was certainly no elephant.

When ninjutsu were combined, the result was far greater than the sum of its parts. The sheer volume of attacks began to create cracks in the Susanoo.

Although he could repair it with chakra, the consumption rate was too high; Uchiha Ryo simply could not sustain it.

"Ocular Jutsu: Phantom Body!" An identical Susanoo appeared on the battlefield, plunging the people of Konoha into even deeper despair.

"Everyone, work together! The enemy is reaching his limit!" Sarutobi Hiruzen shouted. He had noticed that Uchiha Ryo, shrouded within the Susanoo, had begun to bleed from his eyes; he clearly could not hold on much longer.

Encouraged by Sarutobi Hiruzen's cry, the others noticed as well. Their morale surged, and they redoubled their efforts, unleashing a continuous barrage of ninjutsu.

"Sigh! I knew he wouldn't be able to stir up too much trouble, but this is just..." Hyuga Shin couldn't even find the words. After a brief moment of dominance, the enemy was now being suppressed and unable to lift his head.

Hyuga Shin had just thought Konoha was in for a headache, but he had been slapped in the face instantly. His face stung.

"It seems that until one reaches the Super-Kage level, one cannot ignore the advantage of numbers, not even with Susanoo."

"But I won't allow it to end this quickly." Hyuga Shin chuckled, and through the connection of his Tenseigan, he funneled chakra into Uchiha Ryo's body.

The crumbling Susanoo surged with renewed power. The two Susanoos launched a frenzied assault, cutting down Jonin like wheat; over a dozen were slain in quick succession.

Sarutobi Hiruzen's heart ached, and he quickly ordered the Jonin to retreat. This Susanoo was a harvester, cutting down elite ninja as easily as chopping vegetables.

"Summoning Jutsu: Enma!"

Without giving Enma a chance to speak, Sarutobi Hiruzen commanded him to transform into the Adamantine Staff. Wielding the staff, Sarutobi Hiruzen leaped into the air and brought it crashing down onto the Susanoo.

Crack! A shattering sound echoed as spiderweb-like fissures appeared on the Susanoo, as if it were about to collapse.

BOOM!

The massive Susanoo could no longer hold together and shattered into nothingness. Countless ninjutsu poured down upon the exposed Uchiha Ryo.

Uchiha Ryo focused his gaze on his Phantom Body and swapped places with it, narrowly avoiding the lethal attack, though the phantom was blasted into dust.

"Surrender! Tell us your objective, and perhaps your sins can be forgiven," Sarutobi Hiruzen said with a grim expression.

In the battle that had just transpired, nearly twenty Jonin had died, with one elite Jonin killed and three others severely wounded.

The entirety of Konoha, including the hidden forces of the various clans, had fewer than five hundred Jonin in total—and that included elite Jonin and quasi-Kage.

While this wasn't a fatal blow to Konoha, it was certainly a painful one.

"Heh... Amaterasu!" Uchiha Ryo focused his gaze on an elite Jonin. The black flames that consumed all ignited, swallowing the ninja whole.

Nearby ninja immediately unleashed Water Style, attempting to extinguish the flames, but the water only served to fuel the fire, causing even the water itself to burn.

"These flames cannot be extinguished! Use sealing jutsu—seal it immediately!" Sarutobi Hiruzen roared.

Seeing the elite Jonin burned to death, Sarutobi Hiruzen's heart grew heavier, and his eyes turned colder.

"Hahaha... My Uchiha Clan shall endure for eternity!"

Uchiha Ryo destroyed his own eyes and detonated the explosive tags on his body, transforming into a rain of gore amidst a thunderous blast.

Everyone's expression was incredibly grim. Although the enemy was dead, they felt even worse than before.

"Uchiha Clan Head, I require an explanation." Sarutobi Hiruzen's voice was as cold as frost.

"An explanation? I know nothing myself, so how am I to explain? Among those who just died in battle, were there not members of my own Uchiha Clan?" Uchiha Tei was also seething with anger.

"Sakumo, lead the Anbu and investigate for me. I refuse to believe this Uchiha clansman just popped out of thin air. Even if you have to turn all of Konoha upside down, you will bring me a result."

Sarutobi Hiruzen was truly furious this time. A public attack on the Hokage Building that caused heavy casualties among Konoha's ninja—this matter had to have a conclusion, or else how could he show his face?

"Understood!" Hatake Sakumo nodded.

"I hope all clans will cooperate. I imagine you are all just as curious as to who this culprit attacking Konoha really is!" Sarutobi Hiruzen pointedly cast a glance at the Uchiha Clan Head.

Chapter 49: Graduation

If there is anything in this world that is truly heartless, it is time. Time flows like water, passing by in a flash.

In the blink of an eye, it was time for Hyuga Shin and his peers to graduate. More than four years had passed since the incident.

Hatake Sakumo had led the Anbu to scour all of Konoha, yet they never found the Uchiha clansman who had attacked the Hokage.
