Inspector Megure nodded, then instructed the others to investigate. They had to recover the one billion yen.
"Fortunately, none of the armored truck guards died. They were only injured." Inspector Megure looked at the guards standing nearby and breathed a sigh of relief.
"When we arrived and were about to move the cash, we suddenly heard a gunshot. Then the glass shattered, and a masked man pointed a gun at me."
"I hurriedly called the driver's compartment, but they didn't respond. I thought they were dead, so I opened the armored truck's door. I'm sorry."
The long-haired guard bowed to Inspector Megure.
Conan frowned upon hearing this. This man was lying. He remembered that the moment he heard the gunshot and shattering glass, he had immediately run over.
But by then, the robbers had already begun moving the cash. The interval had been far too short—this guard had had no time to call the driver's compartment. There was something wrong with him.
"Guard uncle, I think you're really lucky," Conan said.
"Why do you say that?" the long-haired guard asked strangely.
"The armored truck's windows can't be seen through from outside, yet that bullet didn't hit you. It even struck one of the money bags, preventing it from ricocheting. Looking at it that way, it's not that you were lucky—the robbers knew where the money bags were."
Conan looked at the long-haired guard as he spoke.
"Y-You... what nonsense are you talking about?!" Several beads of sweat appeared on the guard's forehead.
"Miss Hirota, where did you go when something so serious was happening?" the bank president demanded angrily of Masami Hirota.
"Sorry, I went to have lunch because my shift had ended," Masami Hirota said with her head lowered.
Conan looked in that direction, his brow furrowing slightly.
