"Brat, if you can't finish that, I'll make you regret it." The grilled meat here was delicious, but expensive; a single plate cost one thousand ryo, and ten plates meant ten thousand ryo gone in a flash.
"Sure thing! Once I finish it, I'll take the rest to go." Flashing a toothy grin, Hyuga Shin began flipping the meat on the grill.
Tsunade and her two companions also ordered ten plates of meat, along with two flasks of sake.
Chapter 9: Hizashi Hyuga
"Hiccup!"
"That was a decent meal. Many thanks for the treat, Uncle Jiraiya."
Hyuga Shin let out a satisfied burp as he spoke.
Looking at the towering stack of empty plates, Jiraiya's mouth twitched, his heart bleeding in silence.
"Shin, you ate so much—aren't you going to burst?" Tsunade asked, unable to believe her eyes.
She simply couldn't fathom how four-year-old Hyuga Shin had managed to put away so much food, especially since his stomach didn't look the least bit bloated.
Orochimaru sat to the side, quietly playing the part of the handsome youth; since he wasn't the one paying, he didn't care how much was consumed.
It had to be said, the current Orochimaru was quite handsome, though his skin was far too pale.
"Don't worry about it, Big Sister Tsunade!" Hyuga Shin waved a hand. This was a technique recorded in the Six Powers, allowing for the rapid consumption of food energy to strengthen the body.
"You little monster," Jiraiya muttered under his breath, then paid the bill with tears in his eyes. Half of his mission reward had just gone down the drain.
The owner of the barbecue shop was also bleeding internally; while he couldn't say he'd lost money, he hadn't made much of a profit either.
"Since the meal is over, I won't keep you any longer, Big Sister Tsunade. Farewell." The sky had begun to darken, and in the blink of an eye, evening had arrived.
Watching Hyuga Shin's retreating back, Orochimaru narrowed his eyes slightly and remarked, "That Hyuga brat is definitely not simple."
"Isn't he just a big eater? What's so complicated about that?" Jiraiya was still mourning his wallet.
"Idiot!" Orochimaru said coldly before turning to leave.
"You jerk, Orochimaru! Who are you calling an idiot? Get back here!" Jiraiya chased after him in a rage.
Tsunade ignored the two of them, looking at Hyuga Shin's back in deep thought. She had felt a familiar aura from him earlier.
Now, she finally realized it: that aura was remarkably similar to her grandfather, Hashirama Senju.
"Forget it! Not worth the effort. Still, the little guy is quite cute—much better than that idiot brother of mine, Nawaki." A look of doting affection crossed Tsunade's eyes when she mentioned Nawaki.
Taking one last look at Hyuga Shin's retreating figure, Tsunade turned and headed back to the Senju clan compound.
"I never expected to run into the Sannin during their youth. This is truly interesting," Hyuga Shin said with a smile.
He hadn't anticipated meeting the Sannin on the street, but getting a free meal and becoming a familiar face to them was a decent outcome.
Upon returning to the Hyuga estate, he suddenly heard a sound as he passed the training grounds.
"The sun is about to set. Is someone still training? How diligent."
"Let's go take a look."
Hyuga Shin paused his steps, then took a turn toward the Hyuga clan's training grounds.
"So it's Hizashi! I didn't expect you to be working so hard, training even though it's already dark." Seeing the familiar figure, Hyuga Shin said with a smile.
Hizashi Hyuga turned his head to glance at Hyuga Shin, then continued training against a wooden post. Chakra was wrapped around his palms; it was clear he had already learned to refine it.
"Looking at you, it seems more like you're venting your inner frustration," Hyuga Shin chuckled.
Hizashi Hyuga whipped his head around, glaring at Hyuga Shin. "What business is it of yours? You're nothing but trash—you don't even have the Byakugan of our clan. You aren't worthy of the Hyuga name."
Looking at Hyuga Shin's smooth, unblemished forehead, a flash of hidden envy crossed Hizashi Hyuga's eyes.
Though Hizashi Hyuga quickly hid it, the sharp-eyed Hyuga Shin caught it immediately.
"You act tough on the outside, but it's just a cover for your inner fragility. The phrase 'fierce of face but weak of heart' suits you perfectly."
Hyuga Shin said with a mocking tone.
"Enough! You don't even have the Byakugan—what right do you have to talk to me? A piece of trash like you with no value could never understand me."
Hizashi Hyuga clenched his fists and roared.
He wasn't a fool like Hyuga Teppan; as the clan leader's son, he naturally knew what the Caged Bird seal was.
He felt immense envy toward Hyuga Shin. Even though everyone in the Hyuga clan viewed Hyuga Shin as trash with impure blood and no Byakugan, Hizashi Hyuga would have traded places with him in a heartbeat. From the moment the Caged Bird seal was carved into him, Hizashi Hyuga knew his fate was no longer his own to control.
It had been a year—a year of agony. A few days ago, he had finally obtained the chakra refinement technique, and he wanted to use desperate training to reclaim his destiny.
"Tsk tsk! I may not understand you, but I do know you're feeling very inferior right now." After saying this, Hyuga Shin stopped wasting his breath.
He had important things to do; he didn't have time to listen to Hizashi Hyuga complain about the world.
The reason Hyuga Shin hadn't trained today, aside from celebrating his breakthrough in strength, was that today was his birthday.
Even though no one remembered his birthday, Hyuga Shin remembered it himself.
In a few more hours, he would officially turn four. At that time, the system would grant him another lottery chance and ten thousand exchange points.
After a year of research, he had discovered that aside from waiting for the system to grant them, there was no way to obtain exchange points, as this system had no missions.
There were no other ways to obtain exchange points.
This had its advantages and disadvantages; the advantage was not having to be a slave to the system, rushing around all day for the sake of missions.
The disadvantage was that there was no way to earn exchange points, leaving one to wait for the system's annual gift.
Hyuga Shin had given up on relying on the exchange shop; those few points wouldn't be enough to trade for anything worthwhile, so he could only pin his hopes on the lottery.
Hyuga Shin walked toward his residence, while behind him, Hizashi Hyuga grew furious, feeling that Hyuga Shin had come here solely to mock him.
Driven by anger, Hizashi Hyuga threw caution to the wind, raised his fist, and struck at Hyuga Shin's back.
Of course, Hizashi Hyuga had not been completely blinded by rage; he did not use any chakra.
Hyuga Shin had been preoccupied with thoughts of the lottery and hadn't noticed Hizashi Hyuga behind him, so he was struck squarely in the back.
With a dull thud, Hyuga Shin snapped back to reality and turned his head to look at Hizashi Hyuga.
"Did you just hit me?"
