BOOM!
Bang bang bang bang!
All manner of roars and explosions resounded through the skies.
The smell of gunpowder spread across the entire world.
It was no mere figure of speech. The real scent of gunpowder, mixed with the acrid stench of burning objects, flooded their nostrils.
The Hound bases fighting the Cruisers were all located near cities, or even in remote parts of the cities themselves. The endless sounds of artillery fire clearly told everyone—war was right beside them.
Lee Stein had been telling the truth!
Aliens really had been hiding on Earth, and humanity truly was at war with them.
That alone would have been one thing, but those bold enough to risk their lives getting closer to watch or record footage found something even more despairing: the battlefield was a completely one-sided slaughter.
It was not the Earth legions slaughtering the aliens as they had hoped. It was the aliens slaughtering the Earth legions. Thunderstorms like natural disasters and invisible forces that controlled all things made dismantling those robots called Cruisers all too easy.
Hundreds or even thousands of Cruisers were destroyed every minute, every second. They were only barely holding on through sheer numbers. The army was in even worse shape, able only to hide behind the Cruisers and provide negligible fire support. They could not even approach the front lines.
The so-called war against the aliens... was nothing but a joke.
With such a disparity in strength, it was already tremendously good news that the aliens had not come out to massacre and rule Earth.
An atmosphere of panic and oppression spread through human society. Worse still, many people could no longer stop themselves from complaining that Lee Stein and the Federal military had stuck their noses where they did not belong and gone insane.
