Thirty-one days later

A burst of alarms drove all crew members to their stations. Everyone watched the consoles under their responsibility with tense expressions.

On the main screen, only thirty seconds remained on the countdown until the energy beam arrived.

"Energy deflection shield charged to one hundred percent! All systems operating normally! All modules intact! Energy deflection field operating normally! Prepare for impact!"

When the countdown ended, under the watchful eyes of everyone in the fleets of the six major civilizations, a beam of light instantly streaked past the warships and struck the energy deflection shield positioned in the center of the fleet.

The struck energy deflection shield suddenly erupted with a dazzling blue radiance. The solidified energy deflection field on its surface even curved into a U-shape.

The energy that struck the shield did not make any direct contact with it. Like something gliding across ice, the energy skimmed along the shield, curved around it, and shot toward the rear at an angle.

As the energy beam was "bent," vast amounts of energy leaked out, instantly engulfing the nearby warships that had gathered to watch.

Such an enormous energy leak directly tore apart the shields of the surrounding warships.

There was no helping it. The warships' reactors were all supplying energy to the energy deflection shield, leaving only their auxiliary reactors to power their own shields.

Faced with an energy impact of such magnitude, the energy supplied by the auxiliary reactors was nowhere near enough to sustain the shields.
