The Wordless Heavenly Book could continue evolving!
Its method of evolution was also quite unique: Soul Power had to be used to write stories within the Wordless Heavenly Book.
As long as he wrote stories, his Martial Soul could steadily grow stronger.
Once enough had accumulated, everything would naturally fall into place, completing its evolution.
"Reading and writing can make me stronger, and writing stories can even evolve my Martial Soul."
Ye Mu's heart trembled.
Saying he was not excited would have been a lie.
For six years, his Soul Power had not budged in the slightest, remaining at half a level.
Now, he had finally found a way to raise his Soul Power. He finally had a chance to rise above the rest.
He looked at the books in the room. His most pressing task was to increase his Soul Power.
While raising his Soul Power, he also had to strengthen his body. That way, the age limit of the Spirit Rings he could withstand would be higher as well!
He picked up a book from the bedside table and began reading.
When he started reading, he could clearly sense the Soul Power flowing within his body.
At first, it was like a tiny stream trickling through cracks between mountain rocks, flowing slowly.
Soon after, it gathered into a creek and surged on without end.
It felt as though he was gaining far more Soul Power than other soul masters obtained through meditation.
His level gradually rose as well.
Level one!
Level two!
Level three...
He did not stop all night. By the following morning, he had finished the last book.
"My Soul Power is level five!"
In one night, his Soul Power had risen by four and a half levels. Such progress would have been outrageous to anyone.
Now that he knew how to improve himself, Ye Mu felt much more at ease.
Since he already had a method to raise his Soul Power, he needed to work even harder from now on.
He only had three months left.
Within those three months, he had to reach level fifteen, or even higher!
Reading was the key to increasing Soul Power.
After reading all night, he had discovered that he could not simply flip through books at random. He had to read them seriously.
Only by reading seriously would his Soul Power grow.
Casually skimming through them would not raise it at all.
Therefore, even though he could read ten lines at a glance, he could only slowly read one line at a time now.
"Little Mu, breakfast is ready."
At the Management Office, Old Riven came over carrying two meal trays.
There were three dishes and a soup, with generous portions.
"Thank you, Mr. Riven."
Ye Mu stood and accepted the tray.
At the Library, Old Riven handled all three of Ye Mu's daily meals.
"Eat more. You're still growing."
Old Riven sat down with a genial smile.
Although the Library was already open at this hour, hardly anyone came by so early in the morning.
"Mr. Riven, you spend all year at the Library. Don't you go home to visit?"
Ye Mu asked as he ate, somewhat curious.
Though they had spent six years together, he did not know much about Old Riven's affairs.
He only knew that the man had a residence in Spirit City, but Ye Mu seemed never to have seen any of his children.
"Go home? It would be cold and empty there. It's more comfortable here."
Old Riven sounded unconcerned.
Or perhaps simply free and easy.
Suddenly, he seemed to notice something, and his gaze fixed on Ye Mu.
"Little Mu, has your Soul Power increased?"
"You could tell?"
"Isn't that obvious? I'm a soul master, after all. I can still see that much."
Old Riven set down his chopsticks and examined Ye Mu more carefully.
"Let me see how much Soul Power you have."
At that, Ye Mu held out his hand.
Old Riven placed two fingers on his wrist, sending in a faint thread of Soul Power.
"Level five? This... you reached level five in one night?"
Old Riven was stunned. When he had checked yesterday, Ye Mu had only had half a level of Soul Power.
Yet after just one night, it had soared to level five?
"It seems... it seems my Martial Soul underwent some kind of mutation, so my Soul Power increased."
Ye Mu gave an awkward laugh.
"A Martial Soul mutation? That could indeed cause an increase in Soul Power. The reason your Soul Power could not improve before was probably due to your Martial Soul's characteristics."
"Little Mu, your life may be about to change!"
From Ye Mu's account, the mutation of his Martial Soul seemed to be a positive one.
Some people's Martial Souls did mutate. Whether the result was positive or negative depended on fate.
"But there's something I need to remind you of. You raised your Soul Power so much in one night. You cannot tell anyone about this, understand?"
Old Riven spoke very seriously, and Ye Mu naturally understood why.
Sometimes, one had to keep things hidden.
After breakfast, Old Riven took the trays away. He seemed to be in quite a good mood when he left.
Ye Mu scratched his head and brought several books to the Management Office to read.
Reading increased his Soul Power. Reading while working during the day would keep him from wasting time!
That evening, he returned to the residence behind the Management Office.
Rather than bringing in more books, he took out some paper and brushes.
At the Library, there was no shortage of such things.
Writing could improve his physical condition, but what should he write?
Should he copy books?
After some thought, he decided to practice calligraphy instead.
Standing before the desk, he soaked a wolf-hair brush in rich ink, suspended his wrist, focused his mind, and circulated his Soul Power.
His opening stroke concealed its edge like a coiled dragon lurking in the depths; the brush moved through the center like drifting clouds unfurling.
The horizontal stroke was steady as a mountain, the vertical hook sharp as a sword, and every turn was smooth and unimpeded.
As he finished the stroke, Soul Power quietly flowed into it. The ink solidified upon the paper, and the character "Dao" leaped into view.
The strokes were vigorous and ancient, carrying a faint mysterious charm. The room filled with the fragrance of ink mingled with the clear radiance of Soul Power, serene and profound.
"Even though I haven't practiced much in years, I haven't completely lost the knack."
After writing a single character, Ye Mu felt thoroughly satisfied.
Before transmigrating, he had been very interested in calligraphy. He had studied it and practiced often.
After coming here, he would occasionally write as well.
It seemed the results were still rather good.
"My body really has improved, though it consumed some Soul Power."
After he finished writing, a strange warm current seemed to emerge from the Wordless Heavenly Book within him.
The warm current flowed into his muscles, bones, and meridians, spreading through every part of his body.
It made him feel so comfortable that it seemed every pore on his body had opened.
The improvement was quite gratifying.
Even after consuming Soul Power, his physical condition had improved by at least one-tenth.
And he had only written one character!
It worked, so he would continue!
Ye Mu immersed himself completely in calligraphy, practicing for two hours before finally stopping.
The desk was already piled high with xuan paper, a thick stack of more than a hundred sheets.
"There's still a little Soul Power left. I can use it for Martial Soul Evolution."
On second thought, Ye Mu felt he had to develop along all three paths at once. That was true all-round growth.
"What story should I write? Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? The Lord of the Rings? Kuafu Chases the Sun?"
He considered several stories, all of them widely known.
But then he suddenly thought of something.
"I'll write the story of Douluo Continent!"
After thinking it over, writing such a story seemed most fitting.
He summoned the Wordless Heavenly Book, and the scroll unfolded.
Not a single word was written within it.
A thread of Soul Power spilled from Ye Mu's fingertips and drifted into the Wordless Heavenly Book on its own.
Then, a great amount of text appeared.
A line of large words appeared at the top of the page.
"Double-Standard Hammer King and Idiot Beast King"
"I'll use Tang San and Xiao Wu as the first story. Who told you to try and smash my livelihood?"
Ye Mu muttered. Tang San wanted to deal with Spirit Hall, while he was the administrator of Spirit Hall's Library and depended on it to make a living.
If Spirit Hall was destroyed, would he not be unemployed?
Since someone wanted to smash his livelihood, it was fine for him to vent a little through a story, wasn't it?
Before long, a large amount of text appeared within the Wordless Heavenly Book.
[Long, long ago, there was a force known as the Tang Sect, which specialized in using Hidden Weapons...]
