Just as the two began to aim and adjust their angles, a voice rang out from the air directly above them, "Hey, aren't you guys being a bit too nasty? To think you'd actually resort to a sneak attack."
The abrupt sound gave the warriors of the squad a massive jolt. "Who's there?"
They all raised their weapons and looked behind them, faces full of vigilance.
As a result, they saw a person standing in mid-air, looking down at them from above.
"A War God? No, that's not right—even a War God can't hover. This is a being beyond the War God level!" one warrior gasped.
The others were equally stunned by Xu Qing, their hearts racing in panic. They never imagined they would encounter a peerless powerhouse beyond the War God level here, and at the exact moment they were caught preparing a sneak attack.
How embarrassing! And how disastrous!
What if this peerless powerhouse was displeased with them and just swatted them to death? They wouldn't even have a place to cry.
Xu Qing noticed these people looked as if they had lost their souls from fear, and were even mistaking him for a being beyond the War God level; he suddenly didn't know what to say.
No, were warriors these days really so easily frightened? He wasn't a monster.
"This must be a misunderstanding, my lord. We weren't planning a sneak attack," the warrior who had been trading insults with the Fire Hammer Squad stammered, cold sweat pouring down his face as he desperately tried to argue.
He didn't know how much Xu Qing had seen, but he had to argue—no, explain—first.
"But I heard it all, didn't I? You wanted to kill that guy named Luo Feng, saying he stole your money. What's that about?" Xu Qing asked.
Upon hearing this, the warrior immediately began to explain, "It's like this, that..."
"Zhang Zehu, wait a moment," the middle-aged captain beside him barked, cutting him off.
He was the captain of this warrior squad, named Pan Ya, his eyes cold and sinister; one look was enough to tell he wasn't someone to be trifled with.
"Captain?" Zhang Zehu looked at his leader, looking completely bewildered.
Pan Ya took a deep breath, his sharp gaze fixed on Xu Qing, who was standing in mid-air. "Look closely at what he's standing on!"
Hearing this, the others immediately looked toward Xu Qing's feet. They stared intently, and soon discovered the truth, their jaws dropping in shock. "It's a wire! You... you aren't a being beyond the War God level!"
They had all realized that Xu Qing was standing on a thin wire—so thin that they hadn't noticed it at first, leading them to mistakenly believe he was hovering through his own power.
They had made a complete fool of themselves, assuming the other party was a powerhouse beyond the War God level.
"Hurry up and speak. How did he steal your money?" Xu Qing urged the man named Zhang Zehu.
Zhang Zehu looked at Xu Qing, his face flushing red. He had almost been on the verge of kneeling to the man, and it turned out to be a misunderstanding—it was enough to make him die of rage.
"You dared to trick me!" Zhang Zehu glared, his expression ferocious, as if he wanted to devour Xu Qing.
Xu Qing crossed his arms and lowered his eyelids. "Come on, uncle, I didn't say anything, did I? You guys were the ones who misunderstood. Look, he was the one who saw me and shouted that I was a being beyond the War God level, and then you all believed it."
As he spoke, Xu Qing even mimicked the man's tone.
Seeing Xu Qing's impression, the warrior's face turned as red as a monkey's backside, and he felt embarrassed to the point of wanting to die.
The other members also shot him an incredibly annoyed look; if it weren't for this guy shouting, they might not have made such a laughingstock of themselves.
"Who are you? A member of the Fire Hammer Squad?" Captain Pan Ya asked.
It didn't look like Xu Qing was with the Fire Hammer Squad; he looked more like a solo operative.
"Nope, I'm just passing through. I saw you guys planning a sneak attack, so I popped in to say a word. I didn't expect to scare you guys like that, sorry about that," Xu Qing smiled.
Pan Ya's eye twitched. Suppressing his irritation, he asked again, "You're operating alone?"
"That's right," Xu Qing nodded.
"If you're alone, even if you're a Warlord-level warrior, our squad has the confidence to kill you," Pan Ya's tone shifted, his expression turning cold and sinister.
Because only Warlord-level warriors dared to operate alone, and since Xu Qing's voice sounded young, Pan Ya assumed he was a low-level Warlord.
As his voice fell, everyone raised their weapons and aimed them at Xu Qing, especially the two snipers, who had already locked their sights on him, ready to fire at any moment.
The entire squad looked at him with malice, a murderous intent permeating the air.
However, Xu Qing wasn't nervous at all. He slowly raised a hand, held up his index finger, and shook it. "I'm afraid you can't do that."
As he finished speaking, with a ding, the two sniper rifles split down the middle, slid apart, and clattered to the ground.
Clang!
The front halves of the rifles hit the floor, parts scattering everywhere. The cut surfaces were smooth, as if sliced by a sharp blade.
Seeing this, the faces of the entire squad changed, turning fearful. What had happened?
They hadn't seen a thing, yet both sniper rifles were ruined!
"Did you do this?!" Everyone looked at Xu Qing, utterly shocked, filled with fear and dread.
In an instant, their rifles were destroyed. Without their firepower, they were left with nothing but close-quarters combat.
"Who else? Alright, alright, don't give me such terrified looks. I'm not some devil; I don't eat people," Xu Qing spread his hands.
"What exactly do you want?" Pan Ya watched Xu Qing vigilantly, feeling completely on the back foot.
He had originally wanted to take Xu Qing out, but now it seemed he had miscalculated.
Xu Qing sensed the situation over by Luo Feng and his team. "I don't want anything. I just don't like seeing you guys pull sneak attacks. Look at how scared you are. I'm leaving now. Bye-bye, no need to see me out."
With that, Xu Qing leaned backward and vanished from their sight in an instant.
Zhang Zehu and the others rushed over immediately, standing at the edge of the rooftop to look down, but they couldn't see a trace of Xu Qing, leaving them utterly shocked. "What the hell? He just vanished in an instant, and this is the sixth floor!"
"Captain, both sniper rifles are ruined. What do we do now?" the two snipers asked with bitter expressions.
They still had to pursue that heavily wounded Silver Moon Fierce Wolf, which was a high-level Beast General; without the sniper rifles, the difficulty of killing it would be significantly higher.
Captain Pan Ya's face was grim, and the expressions of Zhang Zehu and the other team members were equally unsightly.
Who could have imagined that, out of the blue, a powerful and mysterious martial artist would appear, not only ruining their plans but also destroying their sniper rifles?
It was truly a case of trying to steal a chicken only to end up losing the rice.
"The mission continues. No matter what, we have to slaughter that Silver Moon Fierce Wolf," Pan Ya narrowed his eyes.
The rest of the team felt the same; they had come out on this trip specifically for that Silver Moon Fierce Wolf, and if they succeeded in the hunt, they would make a fortune and be able to live comfortably for several years.
"Let's go. The Fire Hammer Squad got lucky this time, but that won't necessarily be the case next time!"
The group left the rooftop and charged toward their target.
