The joy of the class promotion faded quickly after a few days.
In the evening, Hoshida No finished his training session at the Martial Arts Club and prepared to head to the bookstore to pick up some newly arrived academic journals.
He chose a relatively quiet path near the school's side gate, a route with less foot traffic that would allow him to reach the commercial district faster.
Just as he passed a patch of greenery, the sound of a tearful argument reached his ears.
The voice was familiar—it was Sakura Airi. But unlike her usual voice, which was as faint as a mosquito's in class, this one was filled with terror.
"...Please, let me go... I'm really not... You've mistaken me for someone else..." Sakura Airi was desperately denying the claim.
A frantic male voice followed immediately, his tone lewd:
"Don't play dumb, Shizuku! I recognize your eyes, and the color of your hair! I've collected every photo and every video of you! After you disappeared from the magazines, I searched for so long... I never expected you to be attending school here! This is fate, it's destiny between us!"
Hoshida No stopped in his tracks and approached the source of the sound silently.
Through a gap in the bushes, he saw a man of about thirty, wearing the uniform of an electronics retail chain, cornering Sakura Airi against a wall.
Sakura Airi stood with her back to the wall, her orange-red hair disheveled. She clutched her school bag tightly to her chest, her body trembling slightly, her face etched with fear.
The man had a fanatical look in his eyes; he held a phone up to record her while his other hand reached out to grab her wrist.
"Let me get a good look at you... Shizuku... don't hide..." The man's breathing was heavy.
Hoshida No's gaze turned icy in an instant.
He didn't know who Shizuku was, but his classmate was currently suffering from severe harassment and a potential physical threat.
Just as he prepared to act, a sharp, commanding voice rang out from another direction:
"Hey! What do you think you're doing?!"
A tall figure rushed over, stepping between Sakura Airi and the man.
The newcomer had striking long blue hair; it was their classmate, Hasebe Haruka.
She usually kept to herself, carrying an air of mature detachment, but she glared at the man without a hint of fear.
"Haruka...!" Seeing her friend, Sakura Airi nearly burst into tears.
"Who the hell are you? Mind your own business!" The fanatical fan, interrupted, grew angry and embarrassed.
"I'm her classmate! Your behavior constitutes sexual harassment! Leave immediately, or I'm calling security right now!" Hasebe Haruka's voice was loud as she shielded Sakura Airi and began to back away slowly.
Though she forced herself to remain calm, her clenched fists and slightly tensed shoulders betrayed her nervousness.
"Call the police? Ha! What happens between me and Shizuku is none of your business!" The man sneered, reaching out to shove Hasebe. "Get lost!"
Just as his hand was about to touch Hasebe Haruka's shoulder, another hand clamped onto his wrist from the side.
The man cried out in pain and turned in shock, only to meet a pair of emotionless eyes.
Hoshida No had appeared silently at his side, his fingers precisely gripping the man's wrist joint with just enough force to cause excruciating pain.
"Who... who the hell are you?!" The man struggled, only to find that the other person's hand didn't budge an inch.
Hoshida No didn't answer; he merely gave him a cold, indifferent glance before saying to Hasebe Haruka, "Take Sakura and step back."
Hasebe Haruka froze for a moment, then quickly reacted, pulling the nearly collapsed Sakura Airi behind her and retreating several meters, watching the scene with lingering fear.
Only then did she notice that the one who had intervened was Hoshida No, the aloof boy from their class.
"Let go of me! Do you know who I am? I'll—" The fanatical fan continued to shout.
Hoshida No applied a bit more pressure while his other hand swiftly snatched the phone the man was holding.
The man let out a pained howl, his arrogance vanishing instantly.
"I have no interest in who you are." Hoshida No released his grip on the man's wrist but shifted his body slightly forward, effectively blocking the path toward the two girls.
He tapped on the phone a few times, pulling up the most recent photos and videos. As expected, they were mostly candid shots of Sakura Airi on and off campus, taken from hidden angles, some clearly captured while stalking her.
"Stalking, voyeurism, harassment, attempted assault. The evidence is quite sufficient."
"That's... that's a record of love! What would you know!" The man roared, attempting to lunge forward to grab the phone back.
Hoshida No didn't move his feet; he simply turned his body slightly, using his elbow to strike the man in the ribs as he charged.
The man let out a muffled groan, doubled over, and began to retch, completely losing his ability to attack.
"Hasebe, use your phone to contact campus security immediately. Explain the situation and inform them that an employee is currently committing harassment and attempted assault." Hoshida No ordered without looking back.
"Huh? Oh, right!" Hasebe Haruka was stunned for a moment, but upon hearing his words, she scrambled to pull out her phone.
She quickly dialed the number and reported the situation clearly, emphasizing the detail about the man's retail uniform.
"Airi, don't be afraid, security will be here soon." She comforted Sakura Airi in a low voice while keeping her arms wrapped tightly around her trembling friend.
Hoshida No tucked the fanatical fan's phone away before looking at the man, who was struggling to stand back up with a twisted expression.
"You... give me back my phone!" the man shouted angrily.
"This is material evidence," Hoshida No said flatly. "I'll hand it to security; they will decide whether to turn it over to the police. If you try to run or resist further, you'll face the consequences."
His words carried no emotional fluctuation, yet they held more pressure than any threat.
The man looked at Hoshida No, then at Hasebe, who was still speaking on the phone. Realizing he was completely finished, a look of defeat finally washed over his face.
The school security guards arrived quickly, promptly subduing the man. They listened to the brief statements provided by Hoshida No and Hasebe Haruka, and reviewed the evidence on the phone.
With her friend's soothing presence, Sakura Airi managed to explain, in fits and starts, how the man had identified her as the gravure idol Shizuku and proceeded to harass her.
The guards stated they would handle the matter seriously, contact the relevant shops and the police, and increase patrols around the campus.
The incident came to a temporary close. The guards led the dejected fan away to take further statements.
Sakura Airi remained emotionally unstable, so Hasebe Haruka decided to escort her back to the dormitory first.
"Hoshida-kun," Hasebe Haruka called out to Hoshida No as he prepared to leave. Her face held a mix of scrutiny and lingering fear. "Just now... thank you so much. If you hadn't appeared in time, the consequences would have been unthinkable."
She bowed slightly, her long blue hair sliding off her shoulder. As she straightened up, she looked directly at Hoshida No. "I didn't expect... you to get involved in something like this. You usually seem so indifferent to everything."
Hoshida No looked at her, his gaze lingering for a split second on the tear mole at the corner of her eye before shifting away.
"When a classmate is in danger, stepping in is only natural." His reasoning was simple and direct.
Hasebe Haruka didn't seem surprised by this answer; instead, she smiled. "Regardless, thank you. Airi is an important friend of mine."
She paused, then added, "You... are very impressive. Your movements were decisive. It's no wonder the class's promotion has everything to do with you."
"You weren't bad yourself." Hoshida No offered a rare evaluation in return. "To stand in front of her immediately under those circumstances takes courage."
Hasebe Haruka was slightly stunned, not expecting to receive his approval.
She instinctively straightened her posture, then felt the gesture was a bit silly and brushed her hair back unnaturally. "I just... really hate guys who don't know their boundaries. Whether you like or dislike someone, you should express it in a more upright way. Pestering others is the worst."
"I agree with your point of view." Hoshida No nodded.
Just then, a gust of evening wind blew by. Because Hasebe Haruka had been stepping back to shield Sakura Airi and was busy making phone calls, the lapels of her jacket had come slightly undone.
She instinctively raised her hand to pull them together, but her fingers accidentally brushed against the back of Hoshida No's hand, who was standing nearby.
Hasebe Haruka quickly retracted her hand, her cheeks flushing a deeper shade of red. She gave a light cough. "Anyway... I owe you a favor for this. If there's anything you need help with in the future... you can come to me."
"Mm, alright. Take care of Sakura first."
He glanced at Sakura Airi in the distance. "I suggest you take her to the counseling office; the school should have the relevant resources."
"Mm, I will." Hasebe Haruka nodded solemnly, her gaze toward Hoshida No filled with newfound recognition.
"Then I'll be going." Hoshida No said nothing more and turned to leave the scene.
Hasebe Haruka watched his back as he merged into the twilight, then looked down at the back of her own hand.
She shook her head to clear her thoughts, then turned to gently support Sakura Airi. "Airi, it's okay now. Let's go back. I'll stay with you."
