Marine hero Vice Admiral Garp, known as Iron Fist, had defeated "the Destroyer of the World," Bundy Wald, in his first battle in the New World. He had successfully captured him and thrown him into Impel Down.
This was undoubtedly excellent news that boosted the morale of the entire Navy.
Ever since their defeat in the naval battle at Water Seven, the Navy's reputation had plummeted amid a series of changes. Especially after all of "Mary Geoise" had been reduced to ruins, the Navy, together with the World Government, could no longer hold their heads high in public.
In contrast, news of the great pirates came one after another, while the shifting powers in the turbulent New World were even more overwhelming.
In just half a year, many people had formed the mistaken impression that the Navy was completely no match for the pirates.
Yet for all sorts of reasons, the Navy truly had grievances they could not voice. Their top combat forces had spent a long time recovering from their injuries. Apart from barely maintaining order in the first half of the Grand Line, they simply had no strength left to concern themselves with the New World.
After all, any major pirate crew like Whitebeard's possessed overall strength close to that of the entire Navy. Coupled with the fact that the New World was their home turf, the Navy did not dare provoke them lightly when they were at a disadvantage.
Fortunately, there was still Garp... With Wald's capture, the entire Navy finally vented its anger, and both its reputation and morale rose considerably.
