"I'd always thought that once a person died, there would be nothing left. Could souls really exist?" Uchiha Madara said.
"Then you must believe in souls. If, after someone dies, they still have too many attachments to this world, their soul will be unwilling to leave and will remain in this world forever," Qiying Fofeng said.
"Then what about evil spirits?" Uchiha Madara looked at Qiying Fofeng and asked. "How exactly do such things come into being?"
"If a soul remains in this world because it has too many obsessions and refuses to leave, that doesn't necessarily mean the person was bad. Would their soul turn evil?" Uchiha Madara said.
"Not necessarily." Qiying Fofeng answered, "Evil spirits are like humans too. They can distinguish right from wrong."
"However, kind souls are very rare, because all kind souls eventually leave. They know they have no meaning left in this world," Qiying Fofeng said.
"So the ones that remain are, for the most part, souls full of malice. They want revenge," Qiying Fofeng said.
After hearing Qiying Fofeng's words, Uchiha Madara nodded. "You talked to that old lady downstairs for so long. What were you talking about?"
"Do you know why she stayed in this world and refused to leave? She was already such an old woman—was there really anything she couldn't let go of?" Uchiha Madara said with a smile.
Uchiha Madara found Qiying Fofeng's explanation very interesting. It had completely overturned his worldview. He had never expected the Elzeran Continent to have so many fascinating things.
But there was still one thing Uchiha Madara did not understand: why had that old lady stayed in this world instead of leaving?
