Marshal Canopy had some faith in him because he felt this old man was someone of profound cultivation.
He himself was Marshal Canopy of the Heavenly Court. It would be very difficult to deceive him with such divination, so this old man clearly was not lying.
"The severing of ties I spoke of means that the two of you must act as though you had never met, as though you had never known each other. Even if that young lady faces mortal danger in the future, you must treat her as a stranger and ignore her," the old man said to Marshal Canopy again.
Marshal Canopy was startled upon hearing this and immediately refused. "I listened to you just now only because I did not want that young lady to be affected. But if her life is in danger, how could I possibly stand by and do nothing?"
"General, think this through carefully. Which is more important, your life or that young lady's life?"
"Her life is more important," Marshal Canopy answered without a moment's hesitation.
The old man felt helpless upon hearing Marshal Canopy's answer. After saying so much, he had not expected Marshal Canopy to remain so steadfast.
"General, you must think this matter through. Everyone in this world is selfish. Even the fairest person has selfish desires of his own. Once a life is gone, it is truly gone. Sometimes, something even more terrifying than death is being alive but wishing you were dead," the old man said to Marshal Canopy.
Marshal Canopy looked at the old man. "Thank you for your kindness, sir, but I cannot do that. Her life is more important than mine."
The old man helplessly shook his head. He had said so much, yet Marshal Canopy still would not change his mind.
