Wuchenzi was shocked by Patriarch Bodhi's response. He had never expected his master to be so cold and heartless.
Although Patriarch Bodhi had previously said that he would not acknowledge Uchiha Shin as his disciple for the time being, Uchiha Shin had still spent more than a hundred years in Slanting Moon Three Stars Cave.
Even if there had been no feelings at first, feelings should have developed over time. How could Master be so cold?
Patriarch Bodhi sat there expressionlessly, ignoring Wuchenzi.
"Master, did you truly regard Junior Brothers Uchiha Shin and Goku as pawns, never caring about their safety? Were they merely sacrifices in your plan?" Wuchenzi stared at Patriarch Bodhi, his gaze complicated.
Patriarch Bodhi glanced at Wuchenzi indifferently. "Wuchenzi, Heaven and Earth are merciless, treating all things as sacrificial dogs. Of all things in this world, which is not a pawn of Heaven? That includes your master, the Three Pure Ones, and Tathagata of Spirit Mountain. We are all pawns of Heaven. If Heaven wishes us dead, we may perish at any moment."
Wuchenzi frowned, unable to understand.
"Master, we all know that the Deva Path is heartless. But we are among the living beings of the Three Realms. We have lives and emotions—how can we be as cold and merciless as the Deva Path?
"Master once said that the path of cultivation was cold and heartless because the immortal path was treacherous. But that only applied when facing outsiders. Among fellow disciples, Master taught us to live in harmony, to care for and help one another. How can we treat Junior Brother Shin this way?"
Wuchenzi knelt at the side, unable to understand.
Patriarch Bodhi gave him an indifferent look. "You will understand eventually."
Then Patriarch Bodhi closed his eyes and ignored Wuchenzi no longer.
