As Mirai fell silent, Trog had the waiter refill their coffee.
Mirai's gaze swept over Trog's face. Her brown hair was combed back, making the back of her head seem especially valiant. Unlike Prince Lance, whom Mirai had only seen from afar, Trog sat before him now. From Mirai's perspective as someone from another world, Trog looked more like a "king."
Mirai knew his own limits. He was merely a minor lord. In the Brilliant Kingdom, there were as many as a hundred nobles of all ranks and titles. Several dozen nobles also possessed fiefs. Mirai was only one among those few dozen—a complete newcomer, so to speak.
His territory was merely a small town, most of it still in ruins, with a population of just over five hundred. Although Mirai had recently acquired an iron mine, its current output made it difficult to accumulate any great wealth.
In other words, Hugh had neither soldiers nor money. Even if Trog was at a disadvantage in the struggle for the throne, his status as a prince was still immensely valuable.
The two were simply not on the same level in terms of status or strength. Yet Trog had actually shown him such importance and made no effort to conceal her desire to recruit him. As long as Mirai nodded now, the two of them would immediately form some sort of alliance.
But at that moment, Mirai became even more cautious. Before, he had always felt that his ability to think and judge as someone in his twenties was enough. Yet Dagasan's words had clearly been taught to him by Trog. In other words, Trog was five years younger than him, only twenty-two, but her mind was no worse than his—perhaps even sharper.
How sentimental...
