Uchiha Shisui's expression changed so suddenly that the others were momentarily taken aback. A person who had seemed so mild and friendly just a moment ago had abruptly changed his whole demeanor. It was a little hard to get used to. Perhaps it was difficult to command a teacher's authority when you were still a child yourself.
But the change in Uchiha Shisui's presence made Mirai feel as if he were looking at a true expert, someone who had grown strong through fighting on the battlefield. Uchiha Shisui was no ordinary shinobi. He was much stronger than Oki; in a real fight, Oki probably wouldn't even be fit to carry Shisui's shoes.
"Now that I'm the teacher in charge of Team 4, I'm responsible for your safety. A shinobi's battles aren't games. The slightest carelessness could cost you your life, so you need to be strong enough. I'm sure you all understand that, so there's no need for me to say more."
"Where are we going?" Mirai asked. Uchiha Shisui's words were exactly what he'd expected. As the team leader, Shisui naturally had to establish his authority. A shinobi's authority was usually built on strength. Only someone strong enough to earn their team's respect could lead them effectively.
You could see it in the Naruto anime: every team started out this way. Mirai also wanted to find out how strong his team leader was. He wasn't particularly arrogant, but he was much older mentally than his appearance suggested. Even in the group he'd belonged to before, Mirai had been the leader.
Naturally, he wasn't too happy about being bossed around by a child. Besides, a fight would benefit him greatly.
