Hans's voice echoed through the lavishly decorated suite.
Mirai seemed listless. Though it was already late, he still had not gotten out of bed. He merely gave a soft "Mm" and curled up beneath the covers. He had drunk a great deal the previous night, of course, intending to get useful information from Batica—especially to find out how many legal spells she controlled.
However, the outcome had been deeply disappointing. By the time Mirai's consciousness had begun to blur from all the alcohol, Batica had still said she could drink another bottle!
So the next day, with his head still spinning somewhat, having been defeated by a woman in a drinking contest, and having failed to get the information he wanted, there was no way he could be in a good mood.
Mirai spent most of the day in bed, and it was only in the afternoon that his headache finally eased. Batica came by to see them as well.
As night fell, Hugh suddenly sat up in bed, startling Hans and Charlotte, who were seated by the window.
