"Actually, orcs and Beastmen don't all understand themselves the same way," the old man, Sonitu, began speaking at length after a few cups of wine. "Everyone knows that those who believe in the Magic Beast God are orcs. Beastmen magic constantly strengthens their own bodies, and their final form is like the Beast God's Favored—almost identical to the Magic Beast God."
"But that's all just broad talk. If a Cat Tribe tribe believes in the Dog God, does that make them Beastmen? If an orc from the Jackal Tribe believes in the Fox God, is he an Beastmen or an orc?"
Landen had not expected that an old man he had casually toasted in a tavern would possess such fine insight. A few casual words from him were already an understanding of magic beasts themselves, so he hurriedly continued asking for guidance. "Old sir, actually, when I saw those Beastmen, I was thinking about this too, but I just couldn't figure it out."
"If you can't figure it out, that's exactly right. Beastmen themselves don't necessarily all understand it either." Sonitu's face was flushed, his expression full of smug pride. "In my opinion, you can't look at this matter from the believer's perspective. You have to look at it from the perspective of a god's blessing, and then you'll be able to understand."
Landen looked at Sonitu without understanding, his eyes filled with a thirst for knowledge.
"The gods under heaven are divided into several kinds. The most powerful Ancient Gods need no believers. Occasionally, the Favored of an Ancient God receive Their blessings and obtain Their might.
"The Magic Beast God originates from magic beasts, projecting Their will and power to Their Favored through descent.
"The Dragon Gods can slowly exert influence and strengthen the bloodlines of Their kin.
