Background / History
Ben is descended from Lord Kaul, a legendary Rune Mage and disciple of the God Emperor. Lord Kaul spent years researching the ruins beneath Night-Kirin City before ascending to Legend and participated in the city’s reconstruction, motivating Ben’s own expedition there. 98
Before traveling to the Gallop Plains, Ben failed to enter the Imperial Capital’s Magic Tower for further study and spent years traveling. He had previously been friends with Albert Gallop in the Imperial Capital. 98
Ben arrived in Landen Gallop’s territory while presenting himself as an Intermediate Mage. He agreed to support Landen’s exploration of Night-Kirin City’s ruins in exchange for access to the research results, then advised Landen on managing Barbarian followers and attracting mages to the plains. 98
During his time in Night-Kirin City, Ben surveyed the underground ruins, copied Magic Arrays and Patterns with notes for Landen, and instructed the territory’s young mages. Before departing, he drew Magic Gathering and Perception Patterns on Landen, Tania, and Wendy. 207 208 209
Ben later returned through a spatial rift and openly revealed his Legend rank. Acting on behalf of an Imperial department, he removed the Brown Bear chief’s remains and delivered five compensation potions to Landen. 257
Appearance
Ben has the appearance of a slender man in his thirties, standing roughly 2.4 meters tall. 98
- Golden hair, usually concealed beneath the hood of a mage robe. 98
- Black eyes. 98
- His tall, narrow frame gives no impression of physical frailty despite his mage’s appearance. 98
Personality
Ben is intellectually driven and strongly attached to magical scholarship, particularly the legacy of his ancestor and the ruins of Night-Kirin City. He favors careful study, practical explanations, and preserving knowledge for later researchers. 98 208 209
He is blunt when confronting poor magical workmanship. After Landen’s High-Rank breakthrough, Ben sharply criticized the Mentor Tower’s arrays and personally offered to correct them. 361
Despite his criticism, Ben is an attentive teacher. He recognizes the distinct talents of Wendy, Firefly, Johnny, Sophia, and Redbird, gives them tailored guidance, and showed immediate concern when he heard of a Magic Furnace accident involving Wendy, Sophia, and Guleiya. 207 208 506
