In Night-Kirin City, Wufi led the knights through the streets and along the low walls. Even now, nearly 70 percent of the area within the city walls remained closed off. The open areas had been divided into several districts, and students from Gallop Academy constantly patrolled between them to keep the city peaceful.
"Everyone, let's make one more round through the Commercial Street district before the day shift ends!" Wufi called out. She turned left and entered a six-meter-high city gate.
"Sure thing, Captain." The knight trainees behind her all agreed, following Wufi through the gate.
Beyond the gate lay the most prosperous area in Night-Kirin City: a Commercial Street district enclosed by low walls on all four sides.
It had three main shopping streets and a separate plaza. Along with hundreds of shops, taverns, and restaurants, it also had its own Temple of Commerce and warehouses. Mana-Wielders, Mana-Less, Territory Residents, and visitors from elsewhere could all spend Gold Coins directly in the district without exchanging them for local Work Credit Vouchers.
Looking at the bustling crowds around her, Wufi felt all the more strongly that she had to protect order in the city and keep the priests' corrupt influence from tainting it.
"Lord Landen was right. We can't let these places of vice hide behind religion and brazenly parade around. If you ask me, they should be shut down completely!" Wufi had a rather pure and simple view of the world. She had no regard for those so-called priests and their sordid ways.
"The captain's right. Those people use the gods as an excuse, then squander Night-Kirin City's good name on Gold Coins and debauchery!" shouted another trainee from the Barbarian tribes. Nearly all the Barbarian and local Human Race trainees in the group agreed.
