Background / History
Night-Kirin City endured the Godborn, Goblin, Beastmen, and Human civilizations, each leaving magical ruins within its boundaries. Lord Kaul, the legendary Rune Mage and ancestor of Ben Kaul, researched these ruins and participated in an earlier reconstruction of the city before ascending to Legend. 98
At its height, the city was a major industrial and commercial center of the Gallop Plains. It contained more than one hundred Magic Towers, including towers belonging to a Legend and Grand Archmages; its defensive and environmental Magic Arrays covered the city walls, while workshops, markets, and streets illuminated the night sky. Salt, iron, and mana-conductive metals from surrounding regions were processed and traded through the city. 150
The city later collapsed during a Magic Tide, leaving its massive walls, Royal Palace, industrial facilities, and underground systems in ruins. 150
Landen Gallop began developing the ruins in early 997. His initial plan was to relocate the territory's residents to the plains, restore salt production, and house the original 4,000 Gallop Plains residents in Night-Kirin City by winter. 145 The advance party reached the city in February, established a field headquarters in the Royal Palace cellar, and began surveying its districts and surviving structures. 149 152
Tania's advancement using the ley line beneath the city reactivated the palace-area Magic Arrays. The walls, towers, palace roofs, and other ruined structures began repairing themselves, marking the restoration of the city's original urban functions. 241 288
Geography & Districts

Infrastructure & Magical Systems
City Magic Array
The underground Magic Furnace and array stabilize the magical environment in the palace district and can automatically repair stone structures, including the city walls. A Fairy Queen is required at the center of the system. 199
- Reactivation repaired cracks in walls, restored towers and palace structures, and returned collapsed roofs to their original forms. 241
- Tania regards the city’s Magic Furnace as her future throne. 397
- The city’s restored arrays became the legal basis for recognizing the recovery of its urban functions. 288
Ley Lines and Energy Network
Night-Kirin City is linked to the Industrial New District through an ancient magic-transmission array. A crystal vein beneath the industrial area stores magic power transmitted from the city’s Magic Furnace. 499 508
- Landen later developed Magic Furnaces capable of linking the Magic Web, magic arrays, and ley lines. 416
- His planned network would connect furnaces from the Salt Mine to the western border, with teleportation arrays beside each furnace. 421
- The city’s magical environment improved after Landen returned and its systems became more active. 397
Teleportation
The underground ruins contain a teleportation portal connected to Dragon Tooth City. 279
- Night-Kirin City registered its location crystal with the Dragon Kingdom branch of the Starry Sky Magic Society. 279
- Its first practical service with Dragon Tooth City opened on May 18, using a one-way fifteen-minute morning window. 280
- The city later restored a fixed Teleportation Hall, allowing travelers to enter and leave without relying solely on the underground ruins. 392
Governance
Landen designed a dual feudal-and-nomadic administration for the territory: Night-Kirin City would operate alongside the Gallop Tribe, with the two systems supporting one another economically and administratively. 145
| Office / Institution | Function |
|---|---|
| Archon of Night-Kirin City | Nominally held by Landen during the early restoration; practical execution was handled by Lannia. 145 |
| Lord’s Manor and Territory Joint Council | Highest level of the territory’s planned administrative structure. 145 |
| City departments | Managed documents, appointments, finance, taxation, patrols, defense, construction, education, judiciary matters, warehouses, transport, grain, workshops, commerce, and manpower statistics. 145 |
| Northern Khan Court | Administrative structure integrating former chieftains of the Eight Tribes as formal officials. 585 |
Landen later obtained seals and signets of Night-Kirin City, the Gallop Kingdom, and the royal family from the palace, establishing himself as the city’s effective master. 391
The city’s ownership and the right to appoint its Archon became matters of dispute among the Human Empire, Dragon Kingdom, Girislav Kingdom, and Gallop Family. 243 288
Economy & Industry
Night-Kirin City was historically built around trade, processing, and magical industry. Its modern recovery similarly emphasizes manufacturing, transport, agriculture, and commerce. 150 191
Industrial New District
The Industrial New District occupies ancient iron-smelting ruins east of the city. Its original blast furnace was designed by the God Emperor and completed through the participation of Legendary figures, Archmages, Fairy Queens, and Great Fairies. 191
- Restoration began with camps, protective walls, brick production, and exploration of the ancient industrial caverns. 191
- The district’s blast furnaces were eventually connected to a Magic Furnace. 267
- Despite its historical importance, the site lacked nearby mines, coal, and other conventional resources, making renewed iron production difficult. 191
Agriculture and Supplies
- The southern district combines fields, granaries, mills, warehouses, enclosing walls, and docks. 435
- The northern district supports nomadic populations through livestock-related storage and processing facilities. 152
- The city was intended to receive winter food supplies through Dragon Tooth City during its earliest redevelopment. 145
Trade
Night-Kirin City produces and trades magic-patterned goods, potions, scrolls, jewelry, and Magic Pattern Cabinets. 464 694
- Magic Pattern Cabinets are mass-produced by Junior Mages using Exquisite Orbs to control pre-formed Mage Hands. 694
- Most cabinet transport routes use underground rivers navigated by the Finless Porpoise Clan’s sound magic. 694
- The city’s trade center accommodates chambers of commerce from across the Gallop Plains and beyond. 887
Education
Gallop Academy is Night-Kirin City’s principal educational institution for knights, mages, and Mana-Wielders. 435 543
- The city recruits talented Mana-Wielders through potential tests and mana-attribute screening. 543
- The Tower of Purity proposed sending 4,000 students and 500 teachers annually, though Landen favored beginning with a smaller pilot intake. 541 542
- Landen’s recruitment plan divided responsibilities among Night-Kirin City, the Tower of Purity, and the Imperial Capital School: the city provides location and official establishment, the Tower provides education, and the school supplies funds and potions. 588
- The city’s magical environment and institutions offer Mana-Less residents improved opportunities for bloodline awakening. 588 873
Security
Much of Night-Kirin City remained ruined or sealed during its reconstruction. At one point, nearly seventy percent of the area inside the walls was closed off, while accessible districts were separated by low walls and patrolled continuously by Gallop Academy students. 731
- Outside noble families began repairing and occupying parts of the city, increasing public-security pressure. 412
- Beastmen, assassins, rats, and goblins have infiltrated or occupied parts of the city and its underground passages. 412 413 569
- Knight apprentices patrol streets and earn points for their service. 412
- The Dragon Knights offered to help defend the city, but their proposed price was substantial control over Night-Kirin City and potentially the Royal Palace. 412

Trivia
- Night-Kirin City’s former prosperity was such that magic reportedly reflected in the sky above it. 150
- Its walls are made from exceptionally large stone blocks, leaving Landen initially unable to determine how they had been quarried, moved, or assembled. 80
- Frenco of the Ankylosaurus Tribe initially mistook the northern settlement area for the city itself; he had not yet passed through the actual city gates. 435
- The city’s restoration drew attention from Legendaries, Demigods, noble houses, and foreign powers calculating how many high-ranking individuals it could support. 243
